Would a hotel give me a discount?

I experienced some sickness this summer and my GP referred me to the hospital for a procedure. There's a waiting list and I have now idea when I will be given an appointment. I'm thinking maybe after Christmas. Im not in the UK by the way. I'm a public patient and I don't have any health insurance.

The procedure my GP referred me for is a colonoscopy. I never had one done. I read up online about it. I'm not nervous about the procedure itself but the day before the procedure, you have to fast except for clear liquids and also you have to take laxatives to clear out your insides. It's called prep online. I'm not looking forward to the prep but I am looking forward to getting cleaned out. I think there might be a night feeling being lighter.

Anyways I have no peace and privacy at home. I'm thinking about for when I'm called for the procedure, I'm thinking about booking 2 nights in a hotel in the city. It would be close to the hospital. I could pack a luggage bag with bottles of water and the laxatives and some of my own towels and baby wipes and an overnight bag and other supplies. I think it might make the process easier. I don't have any dates but rooms are usually expensive. Later on down the line when I get the details for the procedure, if I was to call into a hotel in the city and explain my situation, would they give me a discount? Would it be cheeky of me to ask for a discount? I would like 2 nights two one for the prep evening and the day after for after the hospital procedure.

Does anyone here work at front dest for a hotel? Would you give a discount under special circumstances.

I can’t decide if this is a joke or not? 😂 but no I doubt they would.

I have routine colonoscopies done every 6 months for my medical condition. The prep really is not that bad. The worst thing is not being able to eat the whole day before.

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/09/2021 21:33

Ok, I can understand wanting a hotel if your home toileting situation isn’t adequate and you need the rest during prep and post procedure. .

I don’t think any hotel would give you a discount for this though.

You could check their website and see what offers they might have. Sometimes they offer say free breakfast with weekday booking, or 3 nights for price of 2 for week day booking. Avoid Fridays-Sunday’s, those days are most expensive.

But, don’t tell them about the colonoscopy and such. It won’t get you a discount and that should be private.

2et2font5 · 03/09/2021 21:33

Is this a joke?
I really don't understand what the circumstances are that the OP thinks are special. Is it because it's medical and so not a fun or a business stay? Still doesn't make sense though.

Actually, given you wouldn’t be eating, make sure you get a rate that excludes breakfast. A lot of hotels include it in the rate, but also have a rate excluding it if you ask.

VainAbigail · 03/09/2021 21:34

OK, I won't ask for a discount for my special circumstances

What are these special circumstances? Many of us have asked this!

CaMePlaitPas · 03/09/2021 21:34

This is hilarious, I can't stop sniggering, I sound like Mutley.

CaMePlaitPas · 03/09/2021 21:35

Are you a poo troll?

Winemewhynot · 03/09/2021 21:36

Why do you think you would get a discount?! Confused

You’re a customer wanting a room its irrelevant whether its for shagging or shitting…

Anon778833 · 03/09/2021 21:37

I don't get it. If this is real, surely you're massively overthinking this? I mean I would just stay at home.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 03/09/2021 21:37

This is the best thread ever, my mum and I have been crying with laughter. I've given myself a stitch. @op best of luck with your bum

Would a hotel give me a discount?
Jemand · 03/09/2021 21:46

If the procedure where you are is anything like the one used in British hospitals, you won't need to take your own laxatives, you'll be given more than enough (with some pretty detailed instructions about timing) from the hospital.

Jemand · 03/09/2021 21:47

I suppose you could mention that you won't need breakfast the first day, that might help in negotiating.

Anoisagusaris · 03/09/2021 21:50

What a strange post. Why would you expect a discount??

And of course you would bring an overnight bag if staying in a hotel.

TokyoSushi · 03/09/2021 21:51

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm not sure how keen the hotel are going to be to have you! What if you get one of those rubbish bathroom where the toilet isn't a great flush?!

WingingItSince1973 · 03/09/2021 21:55

To reassure you OP my dm has had 2 colonoscopies. One was quite recent. She did the fast and take the special liquid night before/early morning (can't remember which). My df drove her to the local surgery. She was in and out quite quick and then went home. No drama. No need for 2 nights away from home. Done and dusted. I'm more concerned that you having to wait so long for one though? Mum was about 4 weeks from doctors appointment to procedure.

Grin you are KILLING me!!! Hilarious!!!
MimiDaisy11 · 03/09/2021 22:13

Thanks I really needed a laugh. In case this is genuine then best of luck with everything. I’m also curious - have you received other such discounts before? A discount at the zoo because your glasses weren’t the correct prescription or a discount on the train because it was raining?

Lightbee · 03/09/2021 22:20

Just ask if they have any better rates available than those published, most hotels will offer something off the rack rate if they aren’t full.

Mariell · 03/09/2021 22:23

OP, don’t forget to ask for your complimentary sewing kit when you book into reception.

Then when you are in your room you can make your stay a bit more interesting by seeing if it really is possible to shit through the eye of a needle!

GoldieLookingFish · 03/09/2021 22:28

This is one of the maddest thing I've ever heard!

Why on earth would they give you a discount? Hotels don't charge different amounts depending on your reasons for booking a room. Confused
