Teeth whitening

Hi

Can anyone recommend anything for teeth whitening please? You see all the ads but does anything really work? Mine are looking a bit yellow which I think is enamel erosion so can anything really help?

Over the counter stuff doesn't work. If you want proper teeth whitening you need to go to a dentist.

There's so many adverts out there and the results look so unrealistic! I don't want celebrity type white just a few shades lighter would do!

Over the counter or dentist teeth whitening all boils down to peroxide in the end. Peroxide comes in different strengths so research carefully, op. I use a peroxide cream 3% that is quite gentle.

I got those expensive strips that everyone on here mentions and they bloody kept sliding off cos don't stick to teeth properly lol. Am going to dental hygienist next week to have a good clean and then going to enquire about cost of teeth whitening at dentist surgery.

I've used the crest strips in the past and they really do work as a short term solution. But your teeth a way more sensitive after, almost unbearable for a period.

@Mangofandangoo how much is it costing?

Dentist professional job - I had enlighten 6 years ish ago and they still look great. I can get to ‘Hollywood ott’ with top ups (you can buy extra tubes of the goop and wear overnight) but they get really sensitive so only on special occasions, and as I now never go out out really (bloody Covid) I don’t bother.

@NotMyCat my dentist does the zoom treatment but no price quoted online, could I ask how much and if it was more than one treatment? TIA.

Yeah the sensitivity puts me off a bit, 'solving' one problem but creating another.

Zoom is brilliant. My DD had it done before she went off to uni and just tops it up herself now. It’s very natural looking. From memory I think it was £200 to £300 and all she does now is buy the gel which are a few pounds.

@bonfireheart £350, but that's for the guaranteed whitest - you can also buy the extra tubes of gel for about £30 if you need them in future

I did zoom, £350 and you can top up for £20 every year or two. You do get sensitivity but it’s only during the treatment and soon goes.

Definitely go to your dentist, it was about £400 for me, but dentists make you custom whitening trays. Non-custom can fit poorly & irritate or injure your gums. For sensitivity, take a night off whitening and fill your trays with sensitive toothpaste instead.

This is so interesting, I've been half thinking of getting it done for ages!

How long does the initial treatment last? (As in how long do you have to sleep with the trays in your mouth!!)

@potentialdogowner it depends what you want and how you do it.

I did the daily quick result one which was 1 hour a day for 2 weeks. You can do overnight which is actually 4 hours for 2 weeks.

You can do every other day if you get sensitivity, you might be happy after 7 days… but generally, 1 hour for 2 weeks is fair for the initial treatment.
