Keen started in metronidazole 400mg tds for 5 days. I’d like to get 3 doses in today 11:30, 17:30 and 23:30 so 6 hour gaps. But the instructions say 8 hours. Would it be ok for one day. Can space better tomorrow but would really like to get going on them.

If you can go and speak to a pharmacist or ring 111
You have no idea if people on here are actually qualified to give advice

I agree with pp, speak to a pharmacist or call 111.

Common sense and experience tells me that it’s very likely you will be advised to follow the instructions on the pack?

Big disclaimer - I’ve no medical background.

Your GP or dentist may have advised you to take the antibiotics differently than the instructions state. If they haven't you should follow the instructions on the pack, inconvenient though it may be.

Why do you want to get 3 doses in today? What's wrong with taking them as per instructions?

MegCleary · 03/09/2021 11:59

There isn’t enough hours in the day left to get the all doses in today’s but 6 hours would allow it, is in its not inconvenient I want a full days treatment if safe.

It's a strong antibiotic and it can have some nasty side effects. I'd just do the two today then start the three tomorrow.

If it's for dental problems, it should start working very quickly.

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/09/2021 12:03

Get proper medical advice. I would just start taking them at 2pm or later or have a bigger gap between the doses until you can get a full day in. I've taken them in the past and felt quite rough, though that may have been down to the infection I had.

Spoke to pharmacist, 6 hr spacing ok
