Desks for short people

Certified shortarse here. Over the years I've developed all kinds of bad habits re posture at my desk because to sit high enough to use any standard desk, my feet don't touch the floor.

Hybrid working looks set to continue so I want a new, decent desk for home, one that is adjustable and/or low enough for me to sit with my feet on the floor. I have one of those crappy footrests but I hate it. Preferably a quite nice looking desk with actual drawers and shit. I currently use an ancient IKEA table that belonged to DH when he was a student.

Any shorties got a nice low desk?

Similar shortness here - I had one made when it looked like home working was going to continue - as a result I think I’m one of the few people in the office whose home set up is more ergonomic than the work one Grin

It’s not a complicated desk and was actually really cheap - it’s literally about 5 pieces of wood put together and stained.

Hopefully you’ll get some off the shelf recommendations but just in case you hadn’t thought about DIY thought I’d mention it.

Thanks! DH is reasonably handy and could probably do it, but dammit I want something really nice looking, which probably means buying.

I looked into it and am now really exercised about how stupid it is that I'm expected to use the same standard height desk as a man a foot taller than me. The choices seem to be pretty much buy a children's desk, or drop a grand on an ergonomic adjustable system.

I have a fully adjustable desk at the office, it's bliss.

For home i have an Ikea bekant which can be set at different heights (but not adjustable per se), from 65cm to 85cm. Normal desks/tables are 71cm.

It's not as low as i have my office desk but it'll do.

They come in different widths, 120cm and 160cm. Have a look on ebay.

Other than that it's children's desks as you say. Am tempted to try one but they tend to be smaller widths. Am definitely considering getting someone to make me bespoke desk legs.

I would suggest looking at Etsy. Lots of desks there and as they are all made to order they can generally make changes to the dimensions for free or hardly any extra £. Just find one you like, contact the seller and ask if they can make it with shorter legs.

IKEA do adjustable table/desk legs.

I just had a look at children's and teen desks and many of them were the same standard height as adult ones. Angry that makes NO SENSE.

Etsy is a good shout though, thanks. My company sprang for a decent chair for home working, but I'm on my own with the desk - cheap plastic footrest (which broke) was their only offering.

You could test yourself to a new desk top from their too? I have a bamboo one.

Shortie here too with the same issues! I've tried many footrests over the years, and this is the only one that I've found any good. An alternative option maybe...

I've just been told I can have this desk made to my desired height. Hooray!

That footrest does look a lot better than the one I've had. I fully intend to have a desk that's made for my height for the first time in my life, but I might get that footrest anyway for other comfort purposes.

Ooh, I’ve just realised I could use a booster cushion I bought for the car and never used as a footrest!

Glad you’ve found a desk OP
