Best coastal honeymoon hotels in the UK?

Worried1305 · 02/09/2021 20:43

We’re getting married next May, and would like to book a UK-based honeymoon straight afterwards. Would love to hear any recommendations.

Our ideal location would be:

*Somewhere we can catch a train to and be within walking distance of everything - we want to leave the car behind for a week!
*Somewhere that feels special & luxurious - we’re happy to splurge if it’s the right place.
*Somewhere on the beach, maybe with some nice walks nearby.
*We aren’t “foodies” so would prefer the food to be hearty and plentiful rather than posh / fancy - we love pizza so somewhere which does great pizza would be ideal!
*Good cocktails - either in the hotel or nearby.

This may be asking a lot, so if you have recommendations which don’t fulfil the above but you love, please do post them anyway!

TIA Smile

Christchurch Harbour Hotel. Or any of the other hotels in the group.

Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay?

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 02/09/2021 21:06

Not sure if this suits but it's very beautiful, The Buckle in Seaford. They were on Four in a Bed and I know the lady's mum. Stunning hotel, great views and nice walks. Brighton is a short train ride away and Eastbourne an easy 20 minutes on the bus. Seven Sisters is picturesque and not too far to walk! Lewes is nice, too. Happy honeymooning!

Watergate hotel north cornwall. It's amazing. Difficult to walk to cafes etc but you may be able to get taxis? Scarlet Hotel nearby is nice too.
Watermeet hotel woolacombe is also nice. You can walk easily into the town.
How about Lake District? I know not coastal as such but you could find a nice hotel lakeside? Forest Side in Grasmere is AMAZING but not overlooking a lake or sea!

TheChosenTwo · 02/09/2021 21:18

Dh and I go to burgh island hotel every few years (well, pre Covid!), it’s quite fancy but the pub on the island isn’t.
You can either walk over the sand to the island or get the sea tractor, it’s really cool!
Bigbury is the town on the coastline.

Carbis Bay Hotel

mumsnoangel · 02/09/2021 21:31

Newly renovated. Modern and plush. Easy walk to clean, Sandy Bournemouth beach. Get a double with a roll top bath in the bay window.

Was going to suggest Watergate Bay or The Scarlett - both Cornwall, Christchurch Harbour Hotel, Dorset. Sidmouth Harbour Hotel, The Carey Arms, Babbacombe,

Check out The Pig hotel group.

The Fish Hotel, Cotswolds.

muffinfaces · 02/09/2021 21:33

The Scarlett in Cornwall?

muffinfaces · 02/09/2021 21:34

Or the lake one

HerLadySheep · 02/09/2021 21:34

Carbis Bay sounds like it fits the bill, easy to jump on a train to explore St Ives & further afield and beautiful beaches

SpeckledyHen · 02/09/2021 21:37

Seconding The Carbis Bay hotel in Cornwall. Walk or taxi into St Ives .

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 02/09/2021 21:39

Any of the Pig hotels. Ive stayed at 2 of them but they're all beautiful. The Pig on The Beach is on Studland, although they have just opened one in Cornwall.

The Scarlet in Newquay sounds like it might not be your cup of tea as the food is definitely fancy. Watergate Bay Hotel is gorgeous (and there’s several food choices), but it’s a good 1+ hr walk into Newquay.

I would suggest:

  • The Greenbank in Falmouth, gorgeous hotel in the centre of Falmouth which has loads of food choices. It’s not on the beach, but you can walk to Gylly beach.
  • Headland Hotel Newquay - right on the beach at Fistral, 10 mins into centre of Newquay, 2 mins from Fistral Stable which do phenomenal pizzas and sunset views. Brand new mega spa facilities at the hotel. Least ‘fancy’ option but the hotel is grand and the setting is perfect.
  • Lewinnick Lodge in Newquay - I’ve stayed in a lot of UK hotels and the views here are out of this world if you like the sea! Great food (fancy but not pretentious). It’s a good 40 min walk into Newquay (and all it’s beaches) though.

We have just been to Tresco on Isles of Scilly which might work.

Can reach by train to Penzance then helicopter to Tresco. Most beautiful beaches and blue sea, full of wildlife and coastal walks. Abbey Gardens is beautiful tropical gardens with lovely cafe, has lots of beautiful birds and red squirrels.

We stayed in New Inn but there are lots of beautiful cottages to rent and some amazing food including pizza and cocktails. Karma on St Martins seen advertised for honeymoons if want a hotel. Lots of wildlife boat trips to see dolphins, seals, puffins etc, other islands and kayaking, swimming with seals, horse riding on beach etc.

I was going to suggest the Isles of Scilly too, we had a wonderful honeymoon there. We got the train to Exeter and flew from there. Did some self catering on beautiful Bryher, where there is also a nice hotel (Hell Bay) and stayed at the Star Castle Hotel on St Mary's. Lots of lovely places to walk, things to do, and it feels like a real escape. I would love to go back there one day!

Gotthetshirt23 · 03/09/2021 06:55

The Scilly Islands - was going to suggest after reading the first post and seems I'm not alone. Amazing places , wonderful food - the Gin's are beautiful.
White sans beaches with clear blue water!

Paq · 03/09/2021 06:58

The Duchy, Falmouth but not if you are going during school holidays.

Or Idle Rocks, St Mawes.

Watergate Bay is beautiful but remote.

YogaLite · 03/09/2021 07:36

This island looks exclusive and amazing but no idea about the food:

Thank you so much for all these wonderful suggestions! I had already looked at the Carbis Bay Hotel, that is definitely a contender. Hadn’t considered the Scilly Isles, but looks like we absolutely should. Love the look of the Cary Arms too!

We just stayed in one of the dovecotes at the pig on the beach, and it felt very honeymoon-y. They do pizzas at the outside bar as well as the restaurant food. It was fabulous.

Movinghouseatlast · 03/09/2021 10:34

Fowey Hall or Harbour Hotel. Train to PAR, cab to Fowey then you have all the restaurants and pubs on your doorstep.

Carbis Bay is only a 10 minute walk from St Ives, its an easy walk too.

Talland Bay Hotel is stunning, but its a 40 minute walk from Polperro so you would probably need to get cabs.

Worried1305 · 19/05/2022 10:07

Quick update in case useful for anyone else - we have just had the most wonderful honeymoon at the Cary Arms, Babbacombe. Thanks to @MissBridgetJones for the suggestion! Would recommend their luxury beach huts 😊

Ahhh, thanks for popping back with an update. So pleased you had a lovely time - it's a very special place x

yellowsuninthesky · 19/05/2022 10:45

I was also going to mention the Channel Islands, short flight from Southampton airport (which you can get to by train) or ferry from Poole which you can also get to by train and then easily walkable and good bus networks too.

In Guernsey I'd suggest the Old Government House.
In Jersey I'd suggest the Longueville Manor but if your budget is a bit more bijou La Haule Manor is a great alternative. Or the Hotel Cristina.
