Finding a long-lost relative - Perth, Australia

Sadly a member of my dad's family is dying, he wants to speak to his brother who moved to Perth, Australia in the 1970's but we have no contact details. He has a very common name so Google not much use and doesn't appear to be on Facebook. Does anyone have any ideas of ways to try and find him? Bit of a long shot but time isn't on our side unfortunately and we'd like to manage it if possible for him!

I live in Oz, South Australia...I've seen twice now, people coming onto our local town facebook group and giving all the details they have and asking locals if they know the person.

One time I noted that the search was successful and someone who'd worked with someone's Aunt knew where they now were.

The other option is The Salvation Army....they are well known for their skills in this area... www.salvationarmy.org.au/category/services/family-tracing/

Can you PM me his name and any other details you have? I am a writer by trade and have to use Google an awful lot. You don't have to but I might come up with something.x

There’s a subreddit for Perth.

R/perth

I've just tried to reply to your private message but Mumsnet is being glitchy and won't let me. Here's what I said anyway!

I'll have a go...is that everything you have on him? It might be easier for me to search as I'm in Australia anyway...maybe I'll get different recommendations from Google. I will come back and let you know if I find anything...the other thing is, definitely try the Salvation Army. They're very good at this sort of thing. I'll have a look now.x

Share on Facebook any last known photos and dates and areas you think he may be in.

I would check death records on ancestry first though.

Yes, get the free trial and check the death records. It's really tricky with such little info...a place of work or suburb where he lived might help. But again, Salvation Army are brilliant.

Thank you again, yes it's all I have but will ask again if they can remember anything else! Are there any particular Facebook groups you recommend I post on? Will also try the salvation army :)

The West Australian newspaper. Do you have any idea of the suburb they may have lived in?

Notgotanyidea · 02/09/2021 16:16

Perth Now and 9NewsPerth on Facebook

Shardaw · 02/09/2021 18:10

There's a face book group called Aussie and UK Angel's -Reuniting family and friends. They've found lots of people.

podgydalmatian · 02/09/2021 22:20

There's a Poms In Oz Facebook group that could be helpful. Might be able to post in there - there's a lot of Perth based people.

FortunesFave · 02/09/2021 22:26

Thanks for the additional PM! Again, I'm not able to reply to it weirdly....the additional info could help. You should definitely join the Facebook groups and contact the Salvation Army....it's not easy finding people but the good thing is that the population here is so much smaller.

Nittersing · 02/09/2021 23:37

There's a very large Facebook group called Perth Mum's Group. That might be helpful.

LilyMyOneAndOnly · 03/09/2021 19:37

Thank you so much everyone, I've managed to get an old photo so will post on all of the group's suggested this weekend!
