Hi all, taking DD 4 to Theatre Royal Haymarket tomorrow afternoon. Anyone have any ideas for a quick, child-friendly lunch before the show?

How old are your DC? If they like noodles there are two really good options close to the theatre - Shoryu Ramen on the lower part of Regent St (one block west of where the theatre is) and VietCafe on the same street as the theatre. We go to both as a family and have bowls of noodles and broth with meat or prawns in - can also be vegetarian. They are delicious.

There is also a Pizza Express close to the theatre and branches of Ole & Steen (Scandi bakery with posh sandwiches) and Cafe Libanaise (north African/Mediterranean mezzes, salads, wraps etc).

Did you particularly want to see Trafalgar Square? There are no cafes on the square, the St Martin's church one linked above is probably nearest. There are also a few places at the west end of the Strand where it joins the square, including an Itsu and a Costa inside the Waterstones facing the square.
At the south end of St Martin's Lane there is a branch of a nice coffee chain called Notes. They do a very small lunch menu, maybe check their website.
My top pick would a bowl of noodles at Shoryu!

You might be better off looking around Leicester Square. There are rows of restaurants on the side streets that lead from Charing Cross Road to Leicester Square, including an Ed's Diner and a Burger King if you want something right on the square. Or go a few metres north into China town. Gerrard Steet and Lisle Street have lots of dumpling houses and Chinese restaurants. Gerrard Street looks great at the moment with all the lanterns hanging, the painted gates and the dragons in the fire station. Kids might like all that.
