Have been waiting for a new driving licence for nearly three months now.

Does anybody know if they are answering the phones yet?

Can't help with how to contact them but we sent off for a renewal/replacing paper licence/moved address on 13th June and just got it through the post yesterday

First check the dates and info they give here: www.gov.uk/guidance/dvla-coronavirus-covid-19-update

My new licence recently came through in about 10 weeks so similar to PP (it was to correct a name change where they had made the original error!).

I rang their general number several times and got through once having held for 30 minutes. They were completely useless and just said wait until they get to process you in the queue which could be anywhere between 2 and 4 months. So I suppose a 10 week wait wasn’t too bad.

Honestly at this point DVLA are a joke. How are they struggling this much especially when so many tests have been cancelled and moved, so I'm assuming less applications, how are they the only company to handle covid so badly, or at least use it as an excuse. Can never get through on the phone, Web chat unavailable, emails not even vaguely helpful. Its so frustrating!!!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 08/09/2021 17:59

I sent mine off early June and had documents returned 2-3 weeks ago. It said the license would follow in 2 weeks unless they needed medical info.

Which would have been fine except I told them about a medical condition totally unrelated to driving hoping it might speed up the process. Yes I know I don't know why, I had booked some refresher lessons and didn't want to cancel and wanted to be able to drive when I saw family.

Hahha there was a letter enclosed saying the application is now with the medical team. I fully expect to wait until 2022 now.

On the good side, I know they have it which until then I had no idea if they even received it.

They used to have a live chat facility - have you checked that
good luck OP

My brother needed to get through to them and was beside himself. I sat for the best part of a morning repeatedly calling the number and did eventually get through. I happened to be free, so I had the time. Once we got through he was sorted once he asked the right questions.
I feel your pain OP. Just keep trying.

Funny enough I am sat by a field as I type And can see the DVLA building. I often walk my dog of an evening here and all year long when it gets dark it’s lit up like a Christmas tree so staff must still all be coming in to work all hours!

Their service is diabolical.

Foolsrule · 08/09/2021 18:44

Still waiting for mine from June. Posted V5 the same day and that was returned within the week. They obviously profit from sending speeding tickets etc to the right address so no wonder that was prioritized. I’ve tried to phone, I’ve emailed and I’ve checked the box saying I’m a keyworker and need my license when getting in touch. A big fat zero! Funny how there’s no grace if you inadvertently drive in the wrong lane or whatever but they’ve allowed to proved such a thoroughly shit level of service.

I’m in the same situation. I’ve called everyday for the last month. I’ve tried the chat (never works). I’ve tweeted (asked me to try call) and I’ve emailed (no response).
I’m at a loss too OP.

Read an article recently, sorry don't have a link, which said they have a huge back log due to staff shortages because of isolation... It also said that online applications were not effected whereas postal ones were? No idea why there is a big difference, surely someone still needs to check and physically sort the mail being posted? 🤷‍♀️

I read this thread last week and panicked as mine was due to run out. I renewed online Friday morning and got my new license today!!!

HoneyDragon · 08/09/2021 19:02

We applied for a provisional in March. It was finally issued yesterday after countless emails asking them to either refund us so we could reapply or at least respond with a timescale as there was literally no information or progress.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 08/09/2021 19:13

My daughter applied on line for her provisional license and got a form back asking for a photo within 2 days. A friend sent her full license to be renewed and that was back within days too. It seems to make no sense.
