STRONG antiperspirant deodorant for Teenager ?

52andblue · 02/09/2021 12:04

Have always used Mitchum Roll on.

Ds, teenager, needs something stronger.
Must be roll on /stick as he hates aerosol due to ASD.

Hit me with your recommendations please?

DS (& DH) use Nivea Dry Impact. It's not a strong smell so DS (also ASD) isn't bothered by it. The solid stick version, he didn't like the roll on.

EdHelpPls · 02/09/2021 12:41

Have you looked into things like persperix? It's used alongside regular deoderants (if needed) but in theroy work alone.
They work alone for me but not for my DD.

Interestingly, mitchum 48 hours dosent work even a day for me, but other "standard" ones do.

I got very sweaty when I was pregnant.
What I found was to stop using nice scented (especially fruity) body washes and switch to Sanex.
Secondly, I started washing my underarms using foaming teatree facewash as the teatree has anti-bacterial properties.
Then I just stuck to a regular antiperspirant roll-on.

My ASD son uses Trust, you can get it from Boots it's in a little pot. It's brilliant because you only have to put it on every few days and can still shower with it etc. He used to smell terribly coming out of school and didn't like the wet and coldness of deodorant. It doesn't stop you sweating (so not blocking pores and there's no aluminium) but stops the smell. It was recommended on here by someone else and I can't recommend it enough.

52andblue · 02/09/2021 17:27

Thanks everyone.
We don't use body wash, just Soap.
He prefers to shower every other day but he smells by the end of each day even with Mitchum (has worked until now, works for Dd & me)

I will try your suggestions :)

Shave armpits daily in the shower is very effective - also use antiperspirant. Missing even a day makes a noticeable difference. Not sure if a teenage boy would do this though (have wondered if teen boys shave pits nowadays).

JoyOrbison · 02/09/2021 17:40

The sure 72 hour one - think they have a 'mens' version in a bottle green colour and a 'women' version in a pale blue colour.

My teen uses it instead of mitchum

Clarice99 · 02/09/2021 17:45

I use this: www.pitrok.co.uk/

And this:

www.kiehls.co.uk/body/category/hygiene-shave/superbly-efficient-anti-perspirant-and-deodorant/525.html

They're both really good.

purplesequins · 02/09/2021 17:50

my teens use nivea dry sensitive and pure
perfume free.

is your teen washing properly? mine sometimes have to be reminded to actually use soap!

loopylindi · 02/09/2021 18:05

try using an antiseptic bodywash called Hibiscrub (on line chemist) It is brilliant at removing that residual, indescribable damp dog sort of body smell.

MilduraS · 02/09/2021 18:23

I use driclor. It's strong and can cause irritation but whenever I restart, I use it for 3 days in a row then use it once every 3 days after that and it magically stops the sweat in just over a week without irritation.

Elieza · 02/09/2021 18:25

He needs to wash every day not every other day.

If I were you I’d do a pit sniff directly after his shower before he applies the roll on to see if he’s actually washing properly prior!

He may not be spending long enough washing his pits.

grannynap · 02/09/2021 19:04

Salt of the earth is amazing, Ds has had problems forever with BO and this actually stops it completely. I usually order from Amazon.

I agree. However every other day is a big improvement from weekly. He's autistic so there are big sensory issues. But... he also gets bullied & starting a new HIgh school & smelling doesn't help that either. A shower can take 2 hours from suggestion to completion. It's awful for him if he then smells again less than 24 hrs later.

will he have a bath rather than a shower?
or a flannel wash on days between showers?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/09/2021 20:18

has he tried Sure Maximum Protection? It's a cream that works like a stick, so should be fine if he can tolerate a stick. Only thing that works for me other than driclor, which I can no longer use due to extreme soreness.

agree as well that a flannel wash with soap daily is needed if sweaty of pit. One of my DC has to do this in the AM as well as a bath PM. She hates it, but everyone can tell if she's dodged it.

LaLaFlottes · 02/09/2021 20:18

Sure maximum protection is very good Smile

groundcontroltomontydon · 02/09/2021 20:31

Aldi's Lacura (roll on) - it's about 50p and it's the most effective deodorant I've found (better than Mitchum)

80Dodgeballs · 02/09/2021 20:40

My ASD boy doesn't like to shower every day. You can get deoderant wipes from Sainsbury's. We use them to freshen up and then Sure extra strong stick after using the deoderant wipes.

I might try that TRUST though if he gets more pingy. Sounds good.

NotMyCat · 02/09/2021 20:43

The Mitchum cream one
Put it on at night, works brilliantly

BareVanilla · 02/09/2021 20:52

Change the Mitchum one as I found they stop working after a while.

BareVanilla · 02/09/2021 20:52

To a different scent I should have said.

Sheldock · 02/09/2021 21:40

ASD DC here. Showers every other day which is a vast improvement,
I bought baby wipes for them to use twice daily. We tried a flannel but 'it's scratchy' was the sensory result.
So, baby wipe morning and evening, shower every other day and a 72 hour deodorant daily.
One day, a daily shower will happen...maybe!

Does it dry? I find most roll on deodorants are sticky and wet. I liked the old school transparent alcohol based antiperspirants. Nice and stingy!
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/09/2021 07:58

Sure maximum protection
