Hair salon head massage

Had my hair done at salon yesterday and was told that I can’t have my head massaged at back wash while pregnant. Is this still a thing? Surely the 1 min light head massage won’t hurt? I’ve rubbed my head more washing it. Please advise as this was my favourite part.

Massage is not usually not advised in the first 12 weeks but not sure what they think is going to happen later on? Can't they just do a really gentle one?

I suspect this is another case of "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing".

Nah what bollocks.

The baby isn’t in your head.

Mine didn’t do one for ages ‘because of covid’ so sometimes I just think they don’t want to do it. It’s my favourite part too.

I’ve spoke to someone who’s just done training in hairdressing and she’s never been told this and she’s also pregnant. Think it’s something that was told some 20years ago in training. X

It's it just to get you out of those horrible sink chairs faster? I think I remember reading they can sometimes cause strokes.

JustJoinedRightNow · 02/09/2021 12:16

My mum told me the same about those sink chairs so every time I went to the hairdresser I could never relax properly thinking about them causing a stroke Confused

The way to get around the pressure on the back of your head in a sink chair is ask for a towel to be put there. Heaps better. And a towel in the small of your back.

Totally weird they won’t give you a head massage when pregnant. Never heard of that before.

Sorry but I'm Grin

It doesn't make sense, and as you say suggests that rubbing your own head when washing your hair is somehow dangerous? Hmm

TSSDNCOP · 02/09/2021 19:18

I would be thrilled, but that's because I hate it. It's on my notes: no head rub for TSS Grin

Hairdresser here.
I was told it's to do with the client leaning back at the angle too long and the extra weight of the baby putting to much pressure on your spine when extremely pregnant, we always offer extra support for the small of the back in these cases, still do a massage put ask the client to tell us if it's at all uncomfortable at any point.

Stupid spelling that should be
'But' not 'put' !!!!!
