Help! Changed bed now every time dp rolls over, I get flipped up like a see saw

Have name changed as his family on here Grin

Dp is overweight but he's also a big man anyway - he's around 6 foot 4 and weighs about 120kg

We have recently moved house and moved 2 places into one. In one place we had a super king bed with a memory foam mattress which I hated as it really hurt my hips (think because I sank into it and my joints weren't aligned) but the size of the bed was fab. In the other place we had a double with a firm mattress which I loved but we were close together. Both beds were metal/wood frames with slats.

In new house we ordered a super king but when we got in, we realised it wouldn't fit so cancelled the order and got a king divan with a firm mattress. The mattress is great and my hips don't hurt but every single time dp rolls over (and he has started tossing and turning a lot when he can't sleep), I get jostled not by him but by the fact that whatever he does, the mattress jumps up my side when he lands down and flips me up! It is honestly like being on a see saw!

My sleep is now massively disturbed as he's waking me up all night!

Is it the bed? Is it because it's a divan beneath this so no shock absorbers in the way of slats each side or is it something to do with the mattress? I tried to Google but couldn't find anyone else who had had this issue! We didn't experience this on either of the old beds

It’s a shame a SK won’t fit as you could have had two single mattresses, which would have solved the problem.
Sorry I’m no help, but I hope you sort it soon. Lack of sleep is a killer, especially when your partner is snoring away !

We have just got a king with a firm mattress, divan base. Dp is also 6ft 4in. Though probably weighs about 16.5 stone.

I don't even notice him get in or out. We had a bed with slats before and got far more jostled.

I would say its either the mattress (how thick is and what type of springs) or your dp is really throwing himself when he is tossing and turning.

Is the mattress a pocket spring? Think they help reduce the transfer of motion across the mattress because they are all individual springs.

Try adding a mattress topper - like simba or such - for added stability

Thanks @Hekatestorch I think that then rules out the divan

@WeAllHaveWings it's a miracoil silent night mattress with a memory foam layer on top. Apparently those coils deliberately designed so you don't roll together and have less disruption for your partner but for some reason, they seem to manage to flip me around

I am starting to think it's him just seriously throwing his weight around in bed. I am half his weight so it easily impacts me but I can't say it's happened before! One of the kids goes back to university next week so I'm going to sleep in his room till I can sort this out as I'm knackered!

@TeenTitan007 I will look at a topper thanks, maybe that will dampen down the effects!
