Are you stockpiling?

Are you stockpiling food, clothes, toys, medicines? I’ve gotten a bit worried lately with the news of price increases and limited supplies. Shelves seem fairly full where I am (London) but perhaps that’s not going to last? Can’t help but notice much of my food comes from abroad, not to mention medicines, DC clothes and toys, etc.

I’m a bit skint already but if prices will rise and I can do a bit of Christmas shopping for DC now I reckon I’d rather have it sorted.

Kitchen roll not loo roll.

As I’ve already been asked I had 18 loo rolls and as I use a roll a week ish I had plenty (can’t believe I actually was asked how many loo rolls I use)

Miniroofbox · 03/09/2021 21:04

And despite already explaining that I used cloths when I ran out of kitchen roll I was told that my kitchen roll was unnecessary and I should’ve used cloths and washed them.

Even though I was coping with a life changing disability was doing my fucking best with limited help.

No one told you that. It’s my posts you’re referring to, and you have completely misrepresented them. As I have already said, it was a comment aimed at multiple people on this thread who said they stocked up on ‘essentials’ like kitchen roll. I said I was surprised kitchen roll was considered an essential when I haven’t used it for years. It’s a bit weird to misrepresent something that was said on this very thread when people can read for themselves that that wasn’t what happened.
Miniroofbox · 03/09/2021 21:10

People can read what you said in reply to me perfectly well. Despite you trying to claim it wasn’t aimed at me.

Veryverycalmnow · 03/09/2021 21:12

Just a sensible amount- around 300 tins of beans, 500 loo rolls. No need to go mad

shouldbeworkingmore · 03/09/2021 21:13

Sorry @Miniroofbox I can't search posts.

So you had some basics but really would have been quite stuck without friends or dc after a few days? ok

shouldbeworkingmore · 03/09/2021 21:13

ignore the ok

If it was aimed at you I would have quoted you. There were multiple posts ahead of yours saying they stocked up on necessities like kitchen roll. And all I said was ‘kitchen roll isn’t a necessity’. How you can infer a personal attack from that I have no idea. I also don’t know how anyone could possibly be offended by someone else not considering kitchen roll to be a necessity 🤷🏻‍♀️. But I get that you’re feeling a bit sensitive so I’ll leave you to it. Just don’t misrepresent my post, which merely expressed my personal opinion that kitchen roll is not generally a necessity.
shouldbeworkingmore · 03/09/2021 21:14

I have 3 dc so would need shit lots of toilet or kitchen roll

FfrothiCoffi · 03/09/2021 21:15

It is by far one of the most innocent, non controversial posts I have made on here and I’m still getting shit for it Grin.

RedToothBrush · 03/09/2021 21:15

No.

I always start Christmas Shopping in August with the aim to be finished by December 1st. I try and buy long life Christmas food goods as far out as I can to minimise the crazy shop in Christmas week. And I always pre order the meat.

This year will be no different.

Anyone trying to do it all in December is utterly insane as far as I'm concerned. Even without potential issues with stock.

takehomepay · 03/09/2021 21:16

Talking of loo roll, there is an offer for 48 x Cusheen 3ply toilet rolls scented with Shea butter for £13.59 online. I’ve just snapped up a pack after this thread 😂

Haha gave me thrush 🙈
Forserious · 03/09/2021 21:25

And this is WHY prices go up. As someone who can barely afford food shopping as it is, never mind treats or stuff for Xmas, it knocks me sick when I see people buying extra stuff for absolutely no reason other than panic meaning supplies get low and prices increase. Embarrassment.

Oh and I'm not in any benefits whatsoever, just about over the cap and literally scraping by.
Dreading the tax and NI hikes that are coming up.

Mother - is that you?
expat101 · 03/09/2021 21:40

I’ve always commenced buying Christmas gifts/stocking fillers by august.

And being rural have always kept a well stocked pantry plus what I can grow in the garden.

However I see that Aucklanders who relied on meal supplies via post have had their subs cancelled or delayed along with supermarkets of delta interest, shut.

So I think in these times it would be madness not to have enough to get you by for at least a week without shopping, plus anything that is required that comes in from abroad.

Could be, did you have a tiny tears for Christmas when you were little?

Callingallskeletons · 03/09/2021 21:53

I’ve been doing a little Christmas present shopping for a while now - that’s mostly because we’re too skint to afford it all at once though not stockpiling 🤣🤣🤣

Mummapenguin20 · 03/09/2021 21:55

Op. I do the same thing every year, once kids go back in september i start my christmas food box, tins pasta pasta sauces coffee sugar tea tin milk hot chocolate tubs of chocolates biscuits crisps ect every time i shop normally 3 out of 4 weeks online i add a couple of things for my box .... come december i only have to buy my fresh food, that being said i start my christmas gift shopping in january and am just about done that. I have to be organised or i stress....

whojamaflip · 03/09/2021 22:01

I'm building up my stores for the winter currently but that simply means picking up a couple of extra tins or packets with my weekly shop - adds about £5 onto the weekly bill.

We do get snowed in pretty much every winter so I like to keep at least a month of dry goods in hand if possible.

I do understand that not everyone thinks like me but I grew up in a household where food was short and my dm basically shopped every day for that days food. Money was extreme tight due to my feckless father and so we went hungry on a regular basis. I won't have that happen to my kids so always have at least 2 weeks food in the house.

So yes I suppose I am stockpiling 🙁

Tyredofallthis1 · 03/09/2021 22:08

@Sarbears28 I miss those days. I used to wrap little pencil sharpeners and novelty rubbers separately, so it looked like he had a huge heap. Now he's a teen, it's money really. He's saving up for

I've told him I'm getting him socks.

And this thread has reminded me that we're almost out of shampoo. I'll pick some up next shop. Probably just one bottle, though.

SpindleWhorl · 03/09/2021 22:22

As I’ve kale wash explained

large gatherings were banned at shirt native last year

These are the most fantastic autocorrects Grin

DebHagland · 03/09/2021 23:06

@Goldbar

Yes. We can't get in the door for toilet rolls (have to climb through the window). We bought so many that they sent us the Andrex puppy as well so now we also need to stockpile dog food (DH has several cans under his pillow). We are keeping three live salmon in the bathtub in case the army welds us into the house, but DC has given them names so it's going to be difficult to DTD when the time comes. I have also bought up the entire online stock of Fortnum and Mason's Rose and Violet creams in case things get really bad... cost an arm and a leg but it's good to be prepared.
Haven't you heard, there is also a shortage of Beluga caviar I have heard Fornum & Masons is down to their last 500 tins 😂😂😂
Harls1969 · 03/09/2021 23:11

No. But I do appear to have 4 roll on anti-perspirants at the moment.
