Hello my son age 16 has developed acne but I'm loathe to go to roacutane as his sister went on it and had awful anxiety which has majorly impacted on her life. He has had 3 months of antibiotics which ended 3 wks ago and it's flared right up. Has anyone got advice as I'm lost what to do next ??

Back to the doctor for more antibiotics I'm afraid. If it's deep cystic acne it needs to be treated from within. I was on antibiotics for years (I think it was lymecycline) to keep them under control.

More antibiotics and a topical cream combined was the only thing that helped get mine under some control, then I cut out cows milk and it went all together. Mine was hormonal cystic acne though.

DS is in long term antibiotics abs topical cream. Luckily, they're working in combination.

Dd has oral antibiotics but it’s not rocuatane. Something which begins with L……..

Be careful that he doesn't get a stomach ulcer after taking antibiotics for acne for a long time

I went on long term antibiotics but that was combined with Retin A and a sort of topical liquid too (sorry, very long ago so don't remember). It finally worked.

My DD took lymecycline antibiotics and they went after 3 months. Is he taking those as they're geared towards clearing acne.

I think it's really unfair that you don't let him try roaccutane if it's being offered to him regardless of if you think it affected DD or not.

Esp as it tends to clear acne pretty much permanently and takes away years of anxiety of having acne

I agree with @stripedbananas. I used roaacutane when I was a teenager and it cleared my terrible skin up with zero side effects. Also couple of my friends had great results.
As a face wash I liked proactive.
