OXO good grips are really good. It reverses and presses the remains out so it's easy to clean. The IKEA one is a bit hard to clean if it's dried a bit
This! I love it.

Another vote for IKEA. This is hands down the best garlic crusher in the world and it's £3...

Yes, we have had the IKEA one for years and it's great!

Jamie Oliver always doesn't peel his garlic. I couldn't work out how or why or what press he was using that facilitated this.

Oblomov21 · 01/09/2021 20:45

Please can all the above clarify that their garlic needs peeling, or doesn't, to use their press.

Because I actually think that's really really important.

daisyducky · 01/09/2021 20:56

Another vote for OXO good grips garlic press. The reverse pushes out all the garlic stuck in the press making it so easy to clean.

HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 20:58

I use a small cheap press I’ve had for decades. If ever I lost it I know I’d only replace with something small and light. No swinging inner bit (just why?). No need for the reverse to be textured to remove détruis from inside - just makes the whole thing heavier and bulkier than it needs to be and there’s no need for it (and don’t always work).

I’ve used twists and plates and Oxo and zyliss but nothing beats my beat up old one.

Have Not tried pre crushed although did buy 2 tubes of crushed garlic during Brexit related panic about garlic (it’s core ingredient for me). Haven’t tried them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/09/2021 21:02

OMG a garlic twist is just what stoners use for chopping up weed, n'est pas?

Joseph Joseph user - I dont peel the garlic. I crush it then clear the skin out with the handy removal bit and then do the next one. Then when I'm done clear it out and seperate bits to put in dishwasher.
HeronLanyon · 01/09/2021 21:08

MrsTP I believe it may be very similar.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 01/09/2021 21:15

I have two types, one is the IKEA one above and we have another with a plate that helps reverse the leftover bits out, but I still rarely use them.
(I have also bought the chopped garlic in jars but they taste very vinegary to me...)

Peeling a clove still needs doing, then cutting into two or three bits and slicing into small chunks takes about 30 seconds.

If I have accidentally overbought garlic I now chop a bulb or two up in one go, and freeze in tupperware. Cooks from frozen and don't have annoying garlic press to clean out.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 01/09/2021 21:17

Zyliss Susi 3 Garlic Press

Longdistance · 01/09/2021 21:18

Why don’t they make garlic presses bigger? I can put a clove in to crush, but when I need to put three together it becomes a chore 🙄 sorry, slight moan.

thenightsky · 01/09/2021 21:21

@BarbaraofSeville

I recommend buying frozen crushed garlic. No preparation required and it's massively cheaper than fresh garlic. Something like this
This stuff is amazing! And often on bog off deals, meaning it works out about 50p a pack. A pack lasts at least 6 months.
crumpet · 01/09/2021 21:22

I’ve never had a garlic press. Just sliced or chopped as needed.

thistimelastweek · 01/09/2021 21:23

I just love a pestle and mortar.

Doesn't just crush garlic but useful for spices.
And so easy to clean.

Yep, I swear by frozen crushed garlic. Best thing ever!
bumbledeedum · 01/09/2021 21:38

Oxo ones. Can get a good few cloves in easily as well.

cherrypiepie · 01/09/2021 21:51

Ikea 365+ it opens up to clean and is really heavy

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 01/09/2021 21:53

I use a microplane to grate it into whatever dish, it usually turns into a paste consistency.

Much easier than having to try and scrape bits out of a garlic crusher.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 01/09/2021 22:11

@Rugbycomet

The ones from IKEA are amazing….the round ones. They are super strong and don’t rust or break. Dishwasher proof too"
^this - had mine for years, it's amazing

My IKEA one does not need the garlic peeling. I put the whole clove in (or two if they're small), squeeze it, use a knife to scrape the crushed garlic off into the pan and then use the same knife to flick out the skin that's left. Often the skin and bits come back out stuck to the crusher plate which is even easier but still easy to remove if it's stayed in the bit with holes. I find it a doddle to clean - I just whack it in the dishwasher.
