Menstrual cramps on one side only? Possibly related to menstrual cup? Or maybe not.

Every time I’ve had my period for the past 7-9 months I have had pretty bad cramps but only on my left side. My left ovary (I think) is very tender and if I sit down too hard it’s painful through my back. The right side is fine and not tender at all.

I do sometimes get cramps so this hasn’t felt weird but never only on one side. My cycle is pretty regular and I haven’t noticed anything different about the flow. I did start using a menstrual cup not that long ago although stupidly I can’t remember if the timing matches up.

Dr Google isn’t giving me much for one-sided menstrual cramps. I suppose I should go to the GP but in the meantime does anyone have any idea what this could mean? Could it be relayed to the cup? Please oh please no, this thing has changed my life…

My guess would be either that is the ovary you are releasing an egg from?

Ovarian cyst maybe? A pelvic ultrasound would give you the lie of the land. If your GP won't refer you, you can have a private one for about £350.

I don't think a silicon cup in your vagina can have any impact on your ovaries. Your pain shouldn't be dismissed though - you're right to seek your GP's advice.

Hi, I am experiencing this, did you find the cause?
