Where to stop... about 1-2 hrs after Tebay

So, we're off to Scotland. Looking at breaking up the drive, we'll stop,at Tebay to buy picnic things. Then 1.5-2 hrs further on, where would you stop for said picnic and a look at something more interesting than motorway services?

Where is your final destination? And are you travelling with children?

travailtotravel · 31/08/2021 23:02

Ultimately aiming for Pitlochry. No kids.

Strathclyde country park is about two hours from Tebay. I don’t know it but it looks nice! Hopefully someone with local knowledge will comment...

If you’re looking for a bit of scenery and a leg stretch and don’t just want a fleeting stop, come off the M74 at Junction 12 and head towards New Lanark. It’s pretty spectacular and in autumn colours especially pretty. You can have a picnic by the Falls of Clyde.

ComtesseDeSpair · 31/08/2021 23:11

It’s about 15 minutes drive from the motorway.

A word of warning, though: I went there for a casual gander on a drive from Glasgow back to London in 2011 - and ended up buying a converted church nearby, packing my job in and relocating up there for four years!

I did similar journey recently and wanted to drop off at New Lanark but it was shut on that day (a Tuesday I think). We stopped by on the way back though and it was well worth a visit.

Checks bank account for accidental life relocation .... @ComtesseDeSpair this sounds like my kind of approach, but not DH so might be safe. I'll check this out, sounds perfect.

What about Stirling or Dunblane? We have parks and many nice places for food 😊
