Does anyone else's lives feel like an episode of Motherland

Disclaimer - I love my children and hate moaning as I know how lucky I am.

But today just felt like one of days. I start the day with a banging headache. Then a mad scramble to get everyone to nursery/work on time. Everyone is moaning not eating breakfast or wanting to get dressed.

Work I ask for extra help as we are so busy and they are always saying ask for help if I need it. I told them I need extra help today in particular as I also have a headache. Apparently no one is available to help.
At the end of the day it's a mad rush to pick up the kids before nursery closes as I end up working extra.

Pick up kids to be told one of them can't come in tomorrow has he had a bit of a temperature in the last hour. Even though he seems fine now. Hence mad panic call to DH to see if he can rearrange his shifts and have tomorrow off.

Get home the cat has decided to do a poo on the floor and smear it's arse on the floor to wipe the rest off. One DC is screaming because there is poo on the floor. The other is trying to pick it up

At that point I stub my toe and want to cry.

Does anyone else have days like this?

Is there mad, passionate sex to make up for it (earlier episodes)?

AgnesNaismith · 31/08/2021 20:10

Yes OP, yes there are days like this. It’s what takeaway and wine was made for. PP, sex?? After all that??

I am always Julia on the morning school run in the first episode! I need DC at breakfast club on the dot or my entire day falls apart!

Definitely having a takeaway and wine. Definitely not having sex - that was ruled out since the headache this morningGrin

I know the feeling! Think I am going to watch an episode tonight.

Hahaha! Every day is like this! I have ground my teeth away with the stress!

DS is 8 and slightly lower maintenance now but I’ve had my share of these days. When he was 3 I would take him and his 2 yo cousin to nursery before work. I would dance across the car park when I’d dropped them off.

The very worst day was the one where DN managed to get the lid off her water bottle as I put on my coat and poured it all over her head. I was alerted to this by the sound of my son “swimming” in the puddle. Full clothes change for both. I was not on time for work that day.

Brighterblighter · 31/08/2021 21:45

Dunno if op is but you've put me off getting the cat!!

ActonSquirrel · 31/08/2021 21:47

Be like Liz. She doesn't ask her kids what they want for breakfast, she puts a bowl of cornflakes in front of them as "they're not bloody gourmets"

This is why I don't have pets. They are revolting. Sorry but they are. Why anyone would want to deal with that on top of everything else is beyond me.

BumpyBoobs · 31/08/2021 21:57

haha, just finished binge watching motherland-its brilliant! I am Julia, always forgetting kids and things and taking them to school on in-service days!
I do like Liz! And we aaaall know an Amanda!! Grin

@WillYouDoTheFandango love the dancing across the car park Grin

Sorry to those I have put off getting a cat. They are both quite old now they never use to go round wiping their arses on the floor. I'm assuming it's an old cat thing Confused

I would love to be more like Liz but I'm definitely more a Julia.

Liz is so well observed. When I was a single mum all my food was frozen but there was always wine... DH jokes when he works away that I’ll need to get crumpets & nuggets in...

Notdoingthis · 31/08/2021 23:30

Well yes it is supposed to appeal to you. A lot of the research was probably done on mumsnet. In reality, a larger proportion of frazzled mums are poorer than that lot.

ActonSquirrel · 01/09/2021 07:50

Having said that motherland really isn't true to life.

The children are in non speaking 99% of the time. Does anyone's children never say a word to their parents and allow them to get on with what they're doing without interruption?

Kerberos · 01/09/2021 07:54

Watching Malcolm in the Middle and it feels like a documentary of my life Grin
