Just come back from Majorca and got bit on Sunday night, it's really itchy and swollen. What has done this? A taxi driver said tiger mossies are rife at the moment but doesn't look like mosquito bites to me?
I have bought hydrocortisone cream and trying that for now

I've had those bites too and they're extremely itchy. Think it's a mosquito bite (we were by a lake in the evening, so it's quite likely).

OoglyMoogly · 31/08/2021 13:33

I've used TCP on them to alleviate the itching.

Cantdecidewhich · 31/08/2021 13:46

@OoglyMoogly I will get some TCP and try that they are driving me mad! I was quite close to water too. Did they last long?

Looks painful! Worth taking an antihistamine tablet.

Cantdecidewhich · 31/08/2021 15:46

Yes I think I need to, I will get DP to pick some up
Thank you

Ants I think. Was in Spain last week and I have similar- it was ants- the hotel sprayed the trees the next day.

Nothing worked- antihistamine, hydrocortisone etc. Just took ibroprofen and 10 days later all but 2 have gone down.

to get a reaction like that means a slight allergic reaction to what ever they injected you with (to thin your blood so they can drink it - yuck!) they will itch like hell but if it was ants you could try a paste of bicarbonate of soda to neutralise their acid. If it was mossies I don't know. There are various antihistamine drugs - some might work better than others. Also try am antihistamine cream (Anthisan)

I had horrible bites in New Zealand from some fort of sand flea thingies, really itchy for weeks after!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 31/08/2021 15:58

Get Eurax OP! Its the best antihistamine cream out there.

Shannith · 31/08/2021 16:06

They look like the bites I got from sand flies too.

Does t really matter what they were - take some antihistamines - works better than topical creams (though do both).
