Left bag on cross country train to Euston today, what are my chances of getting it back?

I'm absolutely kicking myself, the train was packed and I was exhausted and struggling with my toddler. It's not the end of the world but there were nice clothes belonging to both of us, all my cosmetics and a couple of sentimental items I'd be sorry to lose. I'm so annoyed! I can see I need to apply online but what are the actual chances I'll see it again given covid etc?

Check with the train provider and see it it was left on the train. If so it may be at the train terminus

Giving you some hope here. If you know the stations your train stopped at, ring them all.

There are kind folk in the world. One may have taken your bag to the station. Perhaps also the police stations in those towns.

Ring Euston. The bag may have sat on the train until Euston and the cleaning crew will have taken it to lost and found.

Good luck @Xdecd I hope you are reunited. Flowers

I’m sure it will be in lost property at Euston.

I've filled out the form for network rail who apparently cover Euston station... crossing my fingers but the webpage kept emphasising that there are delays and they're dependent on someone handing it in. thank you for the hopeful words.

I hope you get it back! My mum once left a bag on the train when she was going into London, got the train back and went to where she'd sat before and there was her bag on the luggage rack right where she left it.

Deliqueen · 31/08/2021 02:22

My husband left his wallet on a train a few years ago and he got it back after filling in the forms, as someone had handed it in. Took a while and he had to pay postage but he was very relieved! Hope you get it back🤞

NapoleonOzmolysis · 31/08/2021 05:09

A friend once left her bag on a cross country train to Southampton or Portsmouth and got a call from someone on the IOW who had found it, they posted it back in the end. You never know your luck.

DH left something on the rack above his seat on his way into work one day, expecting never to see it again. When he got on the train in the evening and sat down,he glanced up and it was there above his head.

Hope you get it back, I think most people would either hand something in or leave it be for the train staff to deal with rather than steal it.

actiongirl1978 · 31/08/2021 05:54

DH left his season ticket on a London to Edinburgh train (he got off at the first stop). His pass was handed in at Edinburgh and sent back to him.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 31/08/2021 06:05

We’ve got stuff back from train in the past. Fill form in

SquirryTheSquirrel · 31/08/2021 07:18

DH did this many years ago - the bag ended up in lost property at the destination station.

Indoctro · 31/08/2021 07:29

I left my bag on a train and someone handed it in at Glasgow train station

There is lots of honest people in this world.

Westfacing · 31/08/2021 07:32

Based on the few people I know who've left stuff behind I think there's a good chance you'll get it back. Fingers crossed!

WhatsErFace2020 · 31/08/2021 08:38

Cross country services don’t go into Euston are you sure it was one of their trains? If you are then call their customer relations department and they will chase it all up for you or should at least be able to tell you if it was handed in.

BathwaterBaby · 31/08/2021 08:41

I've had quite a lot (!) of stuff returned to me because I've written my phone number on everything i own in permanent marker, not useful this time but people are kind and helpful!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 31/08/2021 08:47

I left mine on a train from Euston. It ended up at lost property in Manchester Piccadilly (which isn’t even on my line) a week later. Had to pay a fee to have it sent to my local station. I had replaced everything by that point of course Grin

MackenCheese · 31/08/2021 08:52

Yes, there are kind people around! I left my wallet, not on a train, but in a telephone booth. Someone handed it into the local police station and they rang me to come and collect it 2 days later. Not a penny was taken. I really hope you get your bag back! 🤞

hellswelshy · 31/08/2021 08:55

This happened to me a few years ago (think my train was leaving Kings Cross though), filled in the form but never heard a thing. Sorry OP! It was so frustrating, had to replace alot of items including a pair of glasses. Hope you're luckier than me!

MaryBoBary · 31/08/2021 08:57

The staff are very helpful at Euston. I once dropped my phone between the seats and it got jammed. I couldn't wait around as I had another train to catch but spoke to a cleaner on the train and explained what happened. He told me to go to customer services that evening on my way back home and sure enough he had got it out and left it there for me Smile

CatrinVennastin · 31/08/2021 08:58

Definitely fill in the form. Also ring them.

My DH left his work laptop on a train into Euston once and he got it back. Someone handed it in at Euston. I am forever grateful to them as DH would have probably been sacked.

BathwaterBaby · 31/08/2021 09:05

@CatrinVennastin sounds like he's an MP
