Apple CarPlay….any good?

I’m considering moving from Android to Apple and one thing I’m struggling to find out is how good the apple car play is compared to android auto.

So my current car has a fancy infotainment system and I plug my phone in and it does Spotify, navigation, etc. One thing in particular I love about the navigation is that it is minute to minute up to date….so if a traffic jam crops up it will tell me, it’ll tell me whether I’m still on the fastest route or if I need to change. I think it uses google maps and I can see on the screen which bits of the road are red for heavy traffic.

Is apple car similar/as good?

We use Apple CarPlay in our two vehicles and it works flawlessly, just as you describe. Things like real-time updating for google maps and Waz are happening on the phone, they are just mirrored on the display in the dashboard.

I love Carplay. I usually have google maps and apple podcasts going at the same time.

I tend to use my car's own navigation and traffic but car play for everything else since it was added free on my new car. I wouldn't pay the £400 as an extra though.

Yup, it uses maps for navigation and does the live traffic thing, plays my playlists from the phone and is all controlled through Siri.

Fab, thanks. If I buy an iPhone it won’t cost me anything else as the car already has the system in place with apple CarPlay function. Once more thing to add to my list in my pros and cons of Android vs apple while I tussle over the new phone decision.

Agree with everyone. I finally caved and moved to apple but actually still use lots of google apps. On CarPlay I think the google map app is better than iOS maps for traffic, alternative routes etc. Spotify works well.

I’ve been more than happy with it for the two years I’ve had it.

We have Apple Car Play and it’s fab. It came as standard on our car whereas some cars you have to upgrade.
