Not us, but I know a few of DS's friends have been waiting for several weeks Sad

Us sent off end of May, still no sign of it 😳

Sonarl · 30/08/2021 15:43

Interesting. I applied for my son's on the 1st August. The "it's been processed" email arrived on the 2nd August. The licence was waiting for us when we returned from holiday on the 14th August. You'd think they would do them sequentially .....

UmamiMammy · 30/08/2021 15:44

Thanks. I thought it was taking a long time at the moment..........I'm trying to explain to DS that even though he isn't 17 for a while yet it's worth applying now.

My son isn’t 17 until February but I’ve applied already as I’ve heard they can take a long time.

SheliasBroomIsLonger · 30/08/2021 15:50

Yes, Ds did but used his passport for both the photo and signature so an all online application and got it within days.

He only did it because he has recently turned 18 but lots of clubs won't accept a Citizen Card which shows you are 18+, they either wanted your passport or a driving license. There was no way we wanted him taking his passport on a night out.

We were going to get his early but covid happened. Definitely apply now and get it in the system. If you can use his passport I think it is all automatic rather than a person needing to process the form.

We have just done it online using his passport info...............It will be handy to have early for ID until he is 17 and starts lessons

I applied jn December 2021 for mine. I received it only a month or so ago.

To be fair, I understand that there was a bit of a problem wirh Covid at the DLA centre and because I have a history of epilepsy, it involved a bit of a delve into my medical records.

Best of luck to your DS learning how to drive! I'm considerably older than him (31), but still enjoying learning - aforementioned medical history kept me from it previously.

daisychicken · 30/08/2021 16:15

Apply as soon as you (DS) can. My ds applied 12 weeks ago and we sent the extra documents in as soon as the form arrived (so 10-11 weeks ago). We know the application is in the system and the documents have been returned but he is still awaiting the provisional licence. He will be 17 on Wednesday. Tbh, I had expected a delay but thought he'd have received it by now.

DD applied for hers in April and it was back in a couple of days, a friend applied at the same time and is still waiting.

DD sent hers off for change of address, it was back in a couple of days but I am still waiting for mine.

Speaking to friends with 17 year olds a lot are still waiting after months for theirs - really varied.

whiskers72 · 30/08/2021 16:20

My Dd applied at the end of May on-line and sent the documents back as soon as we got them but are still waiting for it to come back. Status on- line says 'awaiting return' or something similar.

loobylou44 · 30/08/2021 16:28

Yes. I applied at the beginning of June and it arrived last week.

AutistGoth · 30/08/2021 16:39

I meant I applied in December 2020, of course. Sorry about the typos.

I received it only a month ago.

TeenMinusTests · 30/08/2021 16:43

We sent back form mid July - according to this we should be getting it back soon, but I'm not convinced ... www.gov.uk/guidance/dvla-coronavirus-covid-19-update

TeenMinusTests · 30/08/2021 16:43

There's a thread running in Teenagers on this.

Have been waiting since February for my medical renewal :-( Fortunately I am still allowed to drive. Apparently they have a back log of a year in some departments.

LordOfTheThings · 30/08/2021 16:46

Did DS's online using his passport information. Still took 10 bloody weeks!

AutistGoth · 30/08/2021 17:05

As you can see OP, it's a very mixed bag. Some received theirs after a few days, I received mine after seven months.

It might be wise to apply ASAP, then at least you've lost no time.

Granllanog · 07/09/2021 12:05

Update.
I applied online on the 30th of August using dds passport details. It arrived this morning.
