A good few years ago we luckily won some very expensive high end garden torches. Lovely metal / wood construction that would last a lifetime. We were given 2 refills for the candles but they are now getting to the end and so we need to buy more refills.

I have contact the company who have directed me to their website, the refills are very expensive plus they will need to be shipped from Denmark.

I have wondered if we can make our own? They are a particular wedged shape but we have the metal trays that hold them so the candle could be made into these so they ‘fit’.

I can buy wick separately and maybe some very large citronella candles and melt them down and pour around the wick but before I do that i need to know how to stand the wick upright in the dish while waiting for the wax to set around it? Is there a way to do this? Also, do you need to soak the wick in anything first?

Does melting and resetting the candle wax affect it at all? Is there a really good wax to buy?

Any hints or tips would be gladly appreciated, thank you!

It won't 'affect' it (you might lose some essential oil smell remelting- but that's only a thing inside)

If you've no equipment just tie the wick to a pencil on the top of the candle - with the wick sustainer (small round metal thing at bottom of wick) balancing on bottom

As they're outside candles just melt down the cheapest candle - paraffin needs a higher temperature to melt and is more volatile so you'd be better with soy wax as it can be melted easily in a plastic jug in the microwave

You can buy wick stickers. They are basically just a double side tape circle that sticks to the wick and the candle holder bottom.
