kgb13 · 29/08/2021 19:11

i've had 2 antihistamine tablets (cetirizine and loratadine) and 2 spoons of piriton whilst feeling unwell today and now i'm feeling awful - nauseous and so dizzy/lightheaded.

just realised you're not meant to mix different types of antihistamine - i don't know what to do

starting to panic

lots of water? phone nhs24? i feel like an idiot

Phone 111.

Sunnysal · 29/08/2021 19:47

Drink plenty of water and sleep it off. Is there someone with you?

Bagelsandbrie · 29/08/2021 19:48

Phone a local pharmacy and ask their advice. It will probably be okay but best to check.

If you phone 111 they will calculate if it’s a concerning amount as they have access to Toxbase expert advice & can advise you about what to do.
They are brilliant at this kind of thing.

Lindy2 · 29/08/2021 19:56

Phone 111 for advice.

I'm pretty sure you need an awful lot of antihistamines to be in any danger but it is worth calling to make sure.

Lots of water and sleeping it off is probably a good suggestion.

itsgettingwierd · 29/08/2021 20:09

I expect you'll be ok.

At 5/6 my ds was on cetirizine daily and then piriton up to 4 times a day on top of needed.

I'd still ring for advice though.

itstoohotinhere · 29/08/2021 20:18

I echo what other posters say about 111, but think you'll be fine. My dd1 has been taking up to 4 x recommended daily amount since the age of 9 - obviously on the advice of doctors!

fantastaballs · 29/08/2021 20:29

I mix antihistamines all the time. I have shocking allergies, so does my son. I take 2x fexofenadine daily, 50mg Phenergan to sleep 5-6 times a month and my bipolar anti psychotic medication is also a anti histamine and I'm on a big dose of that. Add in seasonal allergies and I take pi RT itt try on AND loratadine. Ifi haves semi serious reaction to something then the hospital give me a portion jab to dull it back down. I've never had a single issue and my Drs all know as they told me to take these various drugs 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sonarl · 29/08/2021 20:33

I did this recently when I had a bad reaction to a bite while I was on holiday, exactly the same dosages as you. I basically passed out for a day and then felt absolutely shattered and wiped out for another day but was perfectly ok apart from that.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/08/2021 20:38

My ds used to take Piriton on top of other antihistamines. I'm sure you'll be ok. Ring for advice.

mongoosebaby · 29/08/2021 20:42

I accidentally massively overdosed on antihistamines once. I misread the dosage and took one every hour for a whole day. I was fine, if a little spaced out

NotMyCat · 29/08/2021 20:48

Ring 111 but I'm pretty sure it's ok
I take 4 x 10mg cetirizine a day and piriton on top of that

Stickywhitelovepiss · 29/08/2021 20:53

I do this most days in hayfever season and have lived to tell the tale

TomAllenWife · 29/08/2021 21:18

God you're all so dramatic

It's a fucking antihistamine, you'll be a bit sleepy, enjoy it

TheWashingMachine · 29/08/2021 21:38

Drink water, doze, my dad has anaphylaxis from bee stings, has a couple of antihistamines the second he gets stung and a shot with his epiPen he is usually OK.

NeonJellyBaby · 29/08/2021 21:44

They pump people who have had massive allergic reactions full of piriton intravenously in hospital, so I’m sure you’ll be fine op.

Isababybel · 29/08/2021 21:45

I frequently mix loratadine and cetirizine..Blush im not sure what piritons active ingredient is (cetirizine?) I am sure you will be ok but 111 will put your mind at rest
You may be waitijt on the phone for a while though im sure its extremely saturated with calls now due to covid, though maybe its not as bad now

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 29/08/2021 21:46

You should be just fine but if you have any medical conditions and take any other medication I would phone your local pharmacy and just ask for advice.

Stay away from alcohol and driving until you feel right.

Evvyjb · 29/08/2021 21:50

You'll be absolutely fine- I have at times taken 4 of each variety in one handful. That was before we worked out that this was more than just hayfever...

My immunologist says take as many as you need. The worst thing that will happen is that you'll be a bit sleepy.

Driftingblue · 29/08/2021 21:50

You should call 111 just as a precaution.

I wouldn’t panic though. I take large mixed doses of prescription antihistamines on a regular basis. The most that happens is I get a really good nights sleep which is always welcome because I’m absolutely miserable when I take a dose like that.

Damnloginpopup · 30/08/2021 06:08

Bit late now but I'd have suggested you go clubbing.

itsgettingwierd · 30/08/2021 15:59

Piriton is chlorphenamine. Always makes me think of chloroform 🤣🤣
iloveeverykindofcat · 01/09/2021 11:09

Oh I've done this. I was told by a pharmacist that I hadn't taken enough to be in any danger but I felt absolutley yuck until the next day - really really nauseous and tired, yet twitchy. It will wear off. You'll feel probably gross for a bit though.

Plumtree391 · 01/09/2021 11:12

You're not going to die. You're feeling anxious and panicking. Take deep breaths through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth.

Have something to eat and take in fluid. You might find you want a sleep. If so you'll feel better when you wake.
