Period making me feel like I have flu!?

I had a mc mid June and this is second period since then. I'm 41.

Day 1 yesterday and started feeling ill around 7pm. Usual cramps and bloating in them morning but nothing horrendous. Then around 7pm I started feeling like I had flu and wanted to sleep and drowsy and horrible in general.

Went to an antiques fair car boot sale very early this morning (6am) and felt a bit rubbish and was home for 10.30 by which time all I could do was lie down on the sofa. I felt ill rather than tired - hot /cold de hydrated and queasy. I dozed all day until 4pm when I surfaced and had a shower and a glass of fake pimms.

Can period make you feel like you have flu?

Negative covid and pregnancy tests.

Yes it can - I get this every month a day or so before my period. It started in my 40s. Every month now I do a LFT and then look at the calendar and go "aaaaaaaah it's 26 days since I last did this....."

cherrypiepie · 29/08/2021 17:35

@BenjiMcSchmenzie thank you glad I am not the only one!

Yep, known as "fanny flu" in my friendship circle. 24-36 hours of feeling like you're coming down with something, it's the hormones going all haywire thanks to being 40.

BenjiMcSchmenzie · 30/08/2021 13:20

Fanny flu Grin. I'm calling it that from now on!

FrequentFlyer96 · 30/08/2021 13:25

Fanny flu, love it!
Yep. I get this too, just turned 40.
Every month have cold/flu symptoms around period time. Makes no sense, but there it is.

678somuchtolearn · 03/04/2022 19:34

Just adding to this quite late! Yes I get this a day or two before my period most months. Only lasts a day but is pretty horrible. It feels like lifting a cup is too much effort. Feel fevery, nauseous and ache all over, each month I think oh I’ve finally got covid, then the next day I’m fine. Sadly had it today and TTC so will probably start my period tomorrow :(

tiredanddangerous · 03/04/2022 19:49

Yup. Every month a few days of barely being able
to keep my eyes open and generally feeling crap. I assume it's perimenopause.

Tadpolesandcress · 03/04/2022 20:31

I’m post meno but yes period flu every month. Sore throat, headache, eye tenderness, light-headed, exhausted, swollen glands, blurry vision. For a few years I got styes each month. I used to feel awful for a full week before my period started. Fanny flu is the perfect name for it. So sorry your suffering. You’d have hoped that by now there’d be some wonder drug or supplement for sorting it out 😢. I tried everything from evening primrose, magnesium, vitamin b, various diets, progesterone. Nothing seemed to work for me.

Tadpolesandcress · 03/04/2022 20:34

I meant before meno I had fanny flu from when my periods started to when they stopped. And another thing I got with it was feeling ice cold. Just couldn’t get warm and my nails would go blue. Not sure what that was about.

FiveGensOfLove · 03/04/2022 20:54

Yes! I get this. A full day of feeling absolutely freezing, feverish and sore behind the eyes. Only started in the last year or so, I think? I’m 42.
It’s the only reliable premenstrual symptom I get except for two nights’ insomnia….Hmm

Beezkneezhoney · 09/04/2022 15:07

Replying late as well, does anybody get irregular heartbeat onto of their other symptoms? I believe I'm peri and tvis seems to be a new monthly occurrence for me as well...
