Any Xbox experts out there?

DS used to have an Xbox one but got an Xbox series S for his birthday. He loves it but has noticed it has half the storage space of his old Xbox, so he’s had to delete some of his games.
Apparently extra storage can be bought, but I can only find storage cards of 1000GB, which costs £200! Is that the only way to increase the storage?
Thank you

Hey. Is it the series s or the new one?
Both are white, one takes discs the other is digital.

My sons xbox died last week (oh the drama) and we brought him the older s (takes discs).

My older son has an elite xbox one and has loads of storage.

It’s a new series S. Digital I assume, as he hasn’t put any discs in it.

You can buy external hard drives 1T for around £50-70, my ds has seagate ones. Where are you looking that they're coming up at £200?!

ADayAlwaysHasToEnd · 29/08/2021 15:49

The Xbox series s is small on storage with only 512gb of storage. You can buy cheaper hard drives to use with it but then it cuts the benefits of the specs of the series x such as quicker load times and better graphics etc

You can buy something like this- there's different amounts of storage but 2TB is pretty big

Deal of the day: WD 2 TB My Passport Portable Hard Drive with Password Protection and Auto Backup Software - Red - Works with PC, Xbox and PS4 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VTW2LQ5/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcdll0WEDETQPBV9468K6XHND

When we were buying our replacement this week I'm sure he said the new one is digital and stuff is stored on a cloud so u can uninstall games and reinstall them and progress is there.....

This is coming from me who knows very little about them!

You are correct it will store the progress. It's just having to wait for the game to redownload

Yes I think my DSs have external hard drives that just plug into the usb. They sell them in Argos.

If you know anyone who is throwing out an old sky / other digital tv box with storage, ask to have the hard drive (they're quite easy to remove). A case costs £8.

I googled it and shops (eg Game) seem to offer storage expansion cards for £200. Maybe the external hard drives are cheaper. I don’t actually understand any of it!

The external storage that plugs into a usb mentioned by PPs is really easy to set up, think I paid about £60 for my DS and he hasn't had any storage issues since.

ADayAlwaysHasToEnd · 29/08/2021 16:17

@Bagamoyo1 https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/best-xbox-series-x-external-hard-drives-storage-memory-cards/ this website will help you to see the different ones you can get for different price ranges. The ones that are optimised for the Xbox series s are £200. But the other hard drives will work you just won't have the benefits of the Xbox series s

Thank you all
