Morning | Evening Routines

Trying to create some structure to the start and the end of my days and wondering what other people do to get them going in the morning and then to relax in the evenings?

Also, does anyone actually do the no screens two hours before going to bed thing? What do you do in those hours?

Watching with interest, because pre-covid I was fine and had good, positive routines but it’s all fallen by the wayside.

To get away from screens I knit or read or clean. Don’t like exercising too late but I have a toddler so I need to exercise when I have the time, and 6pm isn’t a great time for it any more so pre-bed seems like something I need to learn and will keep me off screens too.

@Brieeeeeeeeeeee I hope you find it really useful.

I have totally fallen by the wayside due to redundancy, but I am hoping to go back to work and want to make sure I carve out some nice positive routines before I do.

I am also really interested in how people spend their lunch hours as I am setting myself the boundary that in my new job I will be taking my full lunch hour away from my desk?

On work days I try to stick to a routine:
0545: First alarm
0550 - 0600: Get up, splash face with water, go to loo, put on work out clothes, get bottle of water out of fridge
0600 - 0635: Work out (either walk, run, or exercise bike)
0635 - 0645: Yoga (10 minute YouTube tutorial with Kassandra)
0645 - 0650: Shower
0650 - 0655: Dry off, put on dressing gown and slippers, apply deodorant and SPF
0655 - 0715: Breakfast and take multivitamin
0715 - 0730: Make up, hair, apply perfume, brush teeth, get dressed, out the door.

Bit sad but writing it down makes it easier to plan out what I can realistically do it the time frame.

On none work days I tend to plan to go swimming at about 8am, which gets me up and out the house.

I try not to look at my phone in the mornings, otherwise I can fall down a "scroll hole". I don't avoid screens before bed, but I've set my phone to automatically go on greyscale at 9pm, which helps I think. In the evenings I spend 5 minutes doing my skincare which makes me feel relaxed, and usually do another 10 minute yoga tutorial just before bed which is specifically for bedtime.

@Hobnobsandbroomstick I couldn’t manage 10 minutes of that without a child wanting a third breakfast or poking another child!

Evening
At 9pm I’ll have a shower and wash my hair (leave it to dry naturally), do my skincare and then get into my pyjamas. I’m normally done around 9.30 and I’ll watch a bit of tv/surf internet until 10.30. Then I’ll finish sorting the kitchen out, put a load of washing in machine to switch on in morning etc then I’m in bed by 11.

Morning
Up at 6.30am and have a glass of water. Straighten my hair, clean teeth and face then put make up on and get dressed. At 7 I’ll go downstairs and make myself a cofffee, unload dishwasher and make breakfast, I’m normally done by 7.30.
I stay away from screens of a morning, will check the weather forecast but that’s it. I charge my phone of a morning and prefer to leave it to do that.
