I’ve developed an awful moustache shadow!

I have developed an awful moustache shadow!
I am ugly enough as it is without adding this into the mix 🤣
Has anyone experienced this and have some tried and tested methods to lighten it?
It’s not hair…. Waxing will not help.
It is pigmentation.

Melasma? It usually comes out more if you've been in the sun.

I get hyperpigmentation on my top lip. The only thing which works to prevent it is suncream or SPF moisturiser on my face for about 10 months of the year.

A beauty friend recommended that and also this as a good physical sunscreen

And you are not ugly! X

TheWholeWorld · 29/08/2021 12:41

I started to get the same. Sunscreen every day and vit C serum has helped lighten it.

Indecisivelurcher · 29/08/2021 12:43

I've got melasma on my forehead, I have to say I've not found anything that will lighten it yet. I'm 4 months into a dermatica prescription at the mo with no effect. But religious application of factor 50 sunscreen means its a lot less bad this year than it was the last two.

DoucheCanoe · 29/08/2021 12:43

I'm early 30's and have the same.

I pluck my tache and chin every week but have noticed a shadow the last month or so. I was paranoid at first but I'm embracing it now 🤣

minipie · 29/08/2021 12:49

Yes I have this too, it’s melasma. I’m on the Pill which makes it worse. I’m using tretinoin but doesn’t seem to be doing a lot for the melasma.

I tried to be religious about SPF this summer but forgot a handful of times and that was enough…

SolitaryTree · 29/08/2021 12:52

It’s definitely melasma moustache! I’ve just never had this issue before.
I expect it is the sun that’s bringing it out more, thank you for the sunscreen tip and thank you @CornishTiger I will give that a go.
@DoucheCanoe I also have to pluck rogue chin hairs regularly, have done for years, we’re in the same boat! Please teach me how to embrace it, I’m only in my early thirties 🤣

@DoucheCanoe no idea how I missed that you’re the same age as me!
@minipie I’ve not used sunscreen on my face at all and have been out for allot of long sunny walks with my children lately. Will take note and start using it immediately!

My dp has this too 😂 It’s the sun and usually goes away in the winter and comes up with sun exposure, luckily she sees the funny side.

SolitaryTree · 29/08/2021 13:13

I think I’m going to have to learn to see the funny side of it too 🤣
The way I’ve I’ve dealt with it so far is to try and cover it with makeup (which doesn’t look great on a 20 mile walk in the sun when the makeup is running down your face 🤣) and to order myself a present online with a note to cheer myself up 🤣
It was some chocolate liqueur from hotel chocolate and the note says….
“To SolitaryTree,
I hope you enjoy this and go to bed all chocolated out and tipsy, you deserve it”
