Is yours like this?

Constant posts about random cats who have wandered into someone’s garden, suggesting the cat is lost or a stray, with accompanying pic of a very healthy looking cat. Usually then the owner will respond saying it’s their cat and they’re not lost or a stray.

Why the obsession about cats being lost? Isn’t this what cats do - wander around in people’s gardens, nosing around and being curious, and hoping for a bit of food?

It’s so strange 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Some cats are homeless so it’s better that some people show kindness by trying to find out if the cat needs a home or already has one, especially with Autumn and Winter in its way.

As you’ve said, in the majority of cases the owner will come forward to say it’s theirs so it’s great that social media can bring about a positive resolution so quickly.

I posted on our local Nextdoor app because someone has actually stolen our not homeless cat. He went out in the morning and came home with a collar Hmm this went on for days now he's been gone for weeks so I'm just waiting for the vets to ring me to say he's been handed in.

There is definitely a strange obsession with cats on our local pages, every single day several posts about "does anyone know this cat?"

Someone else put a collar on your cat?? 😱 cheeky bastards. They need a good talking to (if only you knew who they were) I hope they haven't locked your cat inside their house.

Yes, the 'friendly cat no collar found' posts seem to have taken over the 'dodgy van seen, watch your dogs everyone' posts.
Next, 'robin seen with a worm in its mouth.'

Ive had someone call me using the number on the tag on my cats collar saying they'd found him starving, howling and abandoned in an alleyway.

.....the alleyway directly opposite my house where he'd eaten not 5 minutes previously. He just does a very good Poor Me impression.

Mind you I've also had someone call me because he was in their garden hiding from their rabbit and could I come and rescue him Grin

TableNiner · 29/08/2021 10:29

It’s because cats are so ludicrously wily. We have some round our way where they look thin and desperate and you start wondering but actually they have homes. We have to use all the tools at our disposal to defeat them.

You’d never mistake my cat for a stray….

NotMyCat · 29/08/2021 10:34

Mine likes to hold one paw up like he's on 3 legs, and do a daily mail sad face Hmm
Either that or he lies flat out in the garden until people are peering at him and going "is that cat ok? I think he's dead. What should we do?" And then he snaps one eye open and terrifies them
Little fucker

Ha ha, this happened to me last week. My cat follows ds when he's out playing with friends and someone posted her photo saying she looked lost. She was just having a wander 2 streets down and was home by the time I saw the photo!

glitterelf · 29/08/2021 12:54

@Raggedyanabell They most certainly have but I'm sure the minute our Denzel needs any form of medical attention I'll be called.
He detests collars and my DD wasn't a happy bunny that someone had forced one on him. Haven't seen him for a good month now and even the local cat feeder has been asking after him, she's spreading the word and keeping an eye out for him bless her.
