Newborn freckle/mole

Hoping someone can advise - my 2 week old DD has a tiny little brown dot on her cheek. It appeared about a week ago. It looks like a little mole or freckle but I've never seen these on a baby before?

Has anyone else ever experienced this? I'm panicking that it's something sinister.

Both my daughters developed moles in the first few weeks - well one was actually born with one - they are on the tops of their head though not visible when their hair grew

Both of mine had moles appear soon after birth. One also had a birthmark appear at a similar time (not on the face though).

Point it out to the GP at baby's six week check. They'll be able to tell you what it is.

My dd had one randomly appear in her tummy as a new baby and her tummy had never even seen the sun!
I was also a bit freaked out. Since then both DC (11+9) have various freckles/moles which didn't used to be there so they must appear now and again but I don't see immediately as I'm not so hands on these days. Grin
Occasionally I worry it's a bad thing as they seem to have a good few, but then so do I so I guess it's just what they inherited and I'm still alive and kicking so far, so I try not to worry.

Miles appear all through your life. My son got one on the sole of his for when he was newborn and has loads now. I'm 53 and still keep finding new ones. It's perfectly natural

GoodVibesHere · 29/08/2021 09:23

I agree perfectly natural. Nothing to worry about at all.

Congratulations on your new baby, by the way!

Yes. DD's one appeared after a couple of months. I tried to pick it at first, thought it was some sort of baby pimple. Confused

Doc said it's a mole.

Thank you all for your reassuring comments! I had no idea I'd get so worried about the smallest things but here we are.

DH and I have a good collection of moles freckles between us so it's to be expected I suppose.

I tried to scrub one off days old DD in the middle of the night under soft nursery thinking it was meconium on her thigh 🤣. They definitely do appear. The trick with moles is to worry if they change over time, are uneven or bumpy or appear after age 40-ish.

BigWoollyJumpers · 29/08/2021 09:30

It's mostly a genetic trait and actually not initially related to sun exposure at all. Lots of babies and children develop moles/freckles. Sadly we are a moley bunch and all have varying types and quantities of moles. You just have to be a bit more careful later in life.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 29/08/2021 09:30

Dd got one on her cheek and one on her toe. Doctor wasn't bothered about either, they are still there 16 years later.

Both of my DDs developed a mole in the weeks following birth and I was quite freaked out when it was DD1, with DD2 I wasn’t. Weirdly they’re in the exact same spot on their heads.

DD has a mole on her face. Appeared at a couple of days old. Nothing to worry about.
