Where shall I live (and can you find me a house?!)

I live in the SE at the minute. I have 4 dc. 1 lives in South Shields, 1 is moving to Brighton, 1 will most probably always live at home, and the youngest will (if he actually does some work!) be going to uni next year. Most of my friends will eventually move away with their partners.

I need to downsize but I don’t know where to go! I can’t afford to stay here really which would be my first choice I think. I don’t think it would be wise to follow any of my dc. I have no family left in the area I was brought up. Do you love where you live? Can you give me ideas of where to go?!

How much can you afford? What sort of place do you want to live in? Town? Village? Coast? What size house - two bed, three bed?

Why will most of your friends be moving away, and where will they go?

Perhaps look at Norfolk or Lincolnshire - both East coast and midway between Brighton and South Shields.

As standrews suggested (kind of!) think about the kind of life you want to live and what kind of area would at least in theory make you happiest - town, country, seaside?

Thanks for the replies.

Most of my friends want to retire elsewhere. I can afford about 600k, and would like a 3 bed. Preferably modern as I currently live in an old house and it costs a fortune to maintain.

I’d like to live in a large village/small town I think.

Being somewhere along the east coast mainline would be helpful for both South Shields and Brighton. What about Grantham?

I’ll have a look at the suggestions, thank you. I hadn’t considered Norfolk or Lincolnshire.
