Would like some legal reassurance

Name changed for this obviously. I have power of attorney for my husband. At the moment he has capacity but it is reasonable to assume this will change in the next few years. Since I know my limits, and at the suggestion of our youngest’s young carer’s’ support worker, I want to prep littlest for sitting entrance exams for boarding schools. In difficult circumstances I feel it could be in their best interests.

My husband does not want this to happen. His family are also vocal about not wanting this to happen. To be fair I don’t want him to go either but I feel having the option would be in his best interests.
Obviously dh and I have parental responsibility for our son but, if dh loses capacity to parent, can I be challenged on school choice?
