Someone has overloaded my skip!

Skip arrived yesterday, I already had everything ready for it and filled and finished with it by last night. Rang them this morning to collect and they said they'll only be able to collect on Tuesday, which I thought would be fine. There was plenty of space left in it when I finished with it (misjudged the size I'd need).
At some point today somebody has completely overloaded it with their shite, bags, household stuff, toys, there are binbags just dumped at the side of it, a few boxes. Enough to fill a small skip without my household crap included! There's no chance they'll be able to take the skip as it is now. What do I do about it? If I ring the council will they come out pretty quickly to have a look through it? I'm just aware I only have the permit for 7 days.
I really would have a look through myself and take it to whatever address I found and tell them to get their own fucking skip but it's really manky stuff they've put on!

Where is the skip? On the pavement or your driveway?

If someone has dumped rubbish on your land I don't think council will do anything - it will be your responsibility to sort. If it's on public land then it's fly tipping and council might be able to do something.

I had to report fly tipping once and the form explained the boundaries but I don't remember details properly.

Get some rubber gloves on and look through it. If you find out where it comes from, drive it back round to their house!

DeRigueurMortis · 28/08/2021 21:05

There was a similar thread a few weeks ago but in that case the OP had a video doorbell and was able to identify the culprits and promptly returned the waste to their doorsteps (and to the person denying it was able to say she had video evidence).

Unfortunately if you don't know whose rubbish it is it will become your responsibility to deal with it by removing it and taking to the tip.

You can look through it for clues but it's a messy job and not guaranteed to provide any proof.

It pretty awful to do this but sadly not uncommon....

Twizbe · 28/08/2021 21:10

King Gary would be fuming, have they put greedy boards up too? Lol

Seriously though. Get some gloves on and see what you can find. Shame them on local social media as well if you can

Mariell · 28/08/2021 21:12

Highly unlikely they will have put something identifying in with their crap.

It’s really awful but I think al you can do is put remove it to the kerb and get your skip taken away and then report the fly tipping to the council.

CoffeeWithCheese · 28/08/2021 21:20

Not much you can do and it's irritating as fuck. We had a skip last week and DH had stacked it all in there meticulously, only allowed items, came precisely up to the fill line.

Skip diving scrap metal guy comes by (and I would have been perfectly fine with the skip diving if he hadn't been an inconsiderate knob) - rakes through, pulls out what he can use, and leaves it a total mess and everything sticking right out of the top. That pissed us off no end.

I ranted slightly on the local FB groups about just "don't be a knob skip diving and leaving it a mess" - was about all I could do.

You’d be surprised what fly tippers leave behind as evidence. Amazon boxes, letters, receipts. Also, see if neighbours have cctv.

MyCatsSlave · 28/08/2021 21:26

Please don’t remove the waste to the kerb as you would then be liable to a £400 fine under section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act.

Unfortunately once someone has dumped waste in a skip hired by you, you are responsible for that waste.

user1493494961 · 28/08/2021 21:26

If it were me, I'd put my gloves on and try to find evidence so I could dump it back on their doorstep.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 28/08/2021 21:28

If you don't have CCTV /Ring doorbell ask your neighbours if they have. You might be able to identify the CFs. Otherwise I agree to getting heavy duty gloves on and going through the crap just in case there's an address

essentialhealing · 28/08/2021 21:29

Nearly every skip I've ever seen has been way over the fill line. The driver will chuck a net over it and take it away

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2021 21:37

The driver will chuck a net over it and take it away

That is true but there's a few days till Tuesday so potential for more crap.

It is a nightmare with skips , we fill them and let the skiphire know but I can guarentee there will be someone elses rubbish added .
You can get lockable skips , they should be the way forward to stop this CF behaviour

eandz13 · 28/08/2021 21:46

The more I think about it the more annoyed I'm getting! I'll be brave and have a root through tomorrow morning. I'm going to need a bloody stepladder to get half of it off they've piled it that high!

I'm angry for you!!

Goldbar · 28/08/2021 23:39

If you find an address, I'd be tempted to give them the choice... come and remove their waste or you're going to shame them on social media.

My house backs onto a business park and the cctv showed someone (unknown) dumping black bags of rubbish over the dividing fence. The bags were on the public path which runs behind the houses. My CF NDN was photographed dumping the bags onto my garden. I printed out the thumnails onto a piece of A4. On the back was a message giving CF NDN 24 hours to remove them before police being called. At 6.15 next day was photographed removing them.

Subsequently another new neighbour reported finding numerous bags of rubbish dumped on their land in period between contract exchange and moving in. When told about NDN dumping on my land new neighbour asked me to email her the pictures as she said her husband would be interested to see them. She is a gossipy type so would not be surprised if word of the putative CF fly tipper gets around the estate.
