DS is 12 (an only child). He's just starting to get out and about with his mates and I feel a bit lost. My weekends for the last 12 years have revolved around him so I just don't really know what to do with myself. Today he's been doing a sponsored walk, its taken all day. I've walked the dog, had a nap, done the food shop. It feel so strange to have this free time! DH works weekends. I need to find a hobby don't I?!

I do a bit of gardening, reading, cooking. Rock and roll I know!

I love all those things, I think once I get used to it I'm going to enjoy having the time to myself. It just feels so odd at the moment and I dont help myself by spending a lot of time worrying about how DS is when he's off doing stuff on his own. Hopefully that'll get easier too!

Often a lot of waiting around when they are first out and about incase anything goes wrong.

But if he is off on an organised activity for 2-4 hours. I would maybe visit my mum, arrange to catch up with a friend, go shopping, go for a nice walk, do some housework, go to the hairdressers or relax and day dream.

I often go to see a friend/friends if I don't need to do anything at home. It's great!

I like to take myself off for coffee in a cafe and a read.

Meet friends, go shopping, gardening, exercise, go for walks. Plus catching up with stuff around the house, messaging friends etc

Our teens are getting older now and often out doing their own thing. We take the opportunity to take back the pool table/table tennis table which they usually dominate! Or get chores done without having to ferry them every two seconds!

Join a fancy gym and go swimming and do some classes and read the paper with a coffee

You embrace it, do whatever interests you in readiness for when they leave home.
