Forced overtime

Work are making us do 80 hours of overtime between mid-September and the first week of January because they are so short staffed.

We used to do 80 hours of lieu days but that was over 12 months.

I work in a warehouse handballing heavy products off lorries - I honestly don't think I can physically do it. It's gruelling at the best of times doing 40 hours. I also cycle a ten mile round trip to get there every day...in the winter months i have towalkto work (no buses.) I am thinking of resigning this week. I am not in a union because they're useless where I work, and anyway they let this go through in the first place.

Is this legal?

You might be better asking your question on the employment boards. Some good HR people on there. Also try calling ACAS on Monday. I’ve used them before. Excellent service and free.
