Why are magazines full of products to buy?

I'm reading Grazia and it's full of products - clothes, bags, etc everywhere! Why? I don't mind the odd recommendation but it's nearly every page, there are so few actual articles!

Surely companies aren't paying to be listed in their recommended things to buy as they're not marked as ads. So why?

I have up on magazines a long time ago for that reason.

The days of an intelligent article on anything are long gone. Now it's all adverts amd what celebrity has gained half an ounce Hmm

Because the companies that advertise want to see their products featured in the magazine.

I think magazine sales are down since you can find everything you could possibly want to read online. Do they have to sell more advertising space to keep going. I think they are dying out tbh - I used to live a glossy mag, especially when they had lots of perfume samples. But they made production cheaper - the pages became less glossy, the content reduced, articles seemed recycled across several different magazines. It's not the same as a chunky Marie Claire from my youth.

‘Glossy’ magazines are a total rip off
Waste of paper/ink/transport etc and yep, every page is an ad for ‘aspirational’ trinkets/bags/shoes/cosmetics/fragrance et al and basically stuff nobody really needs but attempting to make you think you do
Don’t understand why they are still in existence nothing worth reading in them at all

Mags get most of their income from adverts and advertorials rather than sales.

There will probably be none left in a decade.

I still love a good glossy though.

It's not a new thing. Magazines have basically been books of adverts that cost as much as an actual book for a few years now.

Was like that in 1981.
