We have Virgin, Netflix, Disney Plus and Prime but DS(8) has got into the habit of just watching YouTube for minecraft and Mario videos!

I'm looking for things we can watch together in an evening or things he can watch by himself that aren't as mindless.

We've enjoyed masterchef Australia, junior bake off, Lego masters UK, US and Australia, art ninja, the floor is lava, would you rather, Matilda and the Ramsay bunch, and race across the world.

We're not keen on animal/ nature programmes and sci-fi ones. Any ideas don't have to be children specific programmes, just things we can watch all together.

We mostly watch cartoons together tbh and my 8 year old is a daughter not a son but:

Hilda. One of the best cartoons ever created bar none. My daughter likes it, but I freaking LOVE it to absolute death. Young girl moved to the city with her mum. It features trolls and giants and many fantastical creatures but it's grounded in the realities of a young girls relationship with her mum. There adventure and mystery and humour and an elf or two .. well a whole city actually

Loud House Netflix. Another great cartoon about a boy living with his 10 sisters. Very fun and entertaining.

Teen titans Go. Netflix over the top dumb comedy about superheroes, obviously for kids but lots and lots of adult references for the parents watching it.

She-Ra Netflix another cartoon, but it's an amazing one. Action packed, inclusive, strong and well written LGB characters.

Star Vs the forces of evil - Disney action packed and quite bizarre tbh. About a princess with magical powers trapped on earth fighting monsters with her best friend Marco. Excellent fun.

Centaurworld. - Netflix one of the most bizarre and weird cartoons I've ever seen. I can't say it's for everyone, but it's definitely way way way out there. A warhorse from earth is trapped in a bizarre land filled with centaurs and must traverse the dimension to Fing their way back to Rider and rejoin the battle.

Kipo - Netflix a cartoon with some of the best world building and lore that you'll ever see. Just a wonderful wonderful cartoon I can watch over and over again, I love it. It's about a post apocalyptic world filled with giant beasts. Kipo is from the underground and must find her way back to her father with the help of her new friends. Dodging enemies and beasts alike.

A bonus live action show:
Secrets of sulphur springs Disney. 2 kids discover a time travelling portal that leads them back to the night a young girl disappeared. Can they travel time and solve the disappearance and discover what really happened to her? Dun dun duuuuuunnnn.

(I watch kids stuff even when my kid is in bed. It's so much more entertaining than all the serious murder and drugs and shagging in "grown up" TV)

Agree with Teen titans.
Total Wipeout and Takeshi's Castle (on YouTube I think, might appeal as you like The Floor is Lava)
The Masked Singer and masked Dancer (itv, maybe Britbox if not their player)
Captain underpants (Netflix I think)
Deadly 60 and Deadly Dinosaurs (CBBC, iPlayer)
Mr Maker if you can find on YouTube (art)
Going to look up the other suggestions Smile

We have just finished Camp Cretaceous here. Cartoon about Jurassic Park. 3 seasons on Netflix. I enjoyed it just as much as DS!

Recent popular programmes here:
Australian Ninja Warrior old series
Robot Wars (not sure if still available to view, we record and save to watch in the future).
On You Tube there is a channel called Jelle's Marble Runs, my children have been obsessed with this as the marbles are put into teams if different colours to race over obstacle courses and are almost given their own personalities...there are loads of different marble races plus summer and winter marble "Olympics".
Latest obsession is I Can See Your Voice (new Paddy McGuiness quiz/singing show) I don't understand it at all but the children like it and it's family-friendly

My daughter loved Little Lunch on Netflix when she was 9. She's 11 now but hopefully it's still on! Australian tv show about kids in the 6th grade on their post lunch break (so mainly set in the playground).

We like watching Redbull Soapbox Challenge and Ninja Warrior.

SardineJam · 27/08/2021 18:12

Babysitters Club and Good Witch both on 'parents’ Netflix

Theforest · 27/08/2021 18:15

We recently discovered Ben Fogle's Lives in the Wild and the kids love it!!

Thanks all. Some of these we've heard of and others we haven't so definitely some new ones to watch.
