How do I find a washing machine that....

  1. Has a short cycle that washes well, so that we can use it in the daytime, rather than overnight. 2)Will let me put forgotten socks in 3)Takes 9kg 4)spins really well 5)preferably doesn't sing at me.

My 20 year old zanussi is slowly dying and it seems the world of washing machines has changed.
Thanks Grin

The Samsung AddWash range is brilliant.

Most are 9kg but you can get 10.5kg if you like.

They do sing but I think there may be a way to turn that off (personally I love it but I'm a bit nuts Grin)

Bosch! You can add midcycle, has short wash options on all cycles (so does a short cotton load in 1hr) and you can get large drum ones.

Alternatively, I think AEG do them too with the spec you want.

Was about to say Samsung too. There’s a mixed wash that takes 1hr 6mins I think, and the add wash feature is great. The tune is a bit annoying though!

I've got a Samsung, it's 10 years old now and still going strong. Quick wash is 25 minutes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2021 09:29

Maybe I can learn to ignore the singing if it does everything else.
Thank you!

I like the Samsung tune too Grin but yes it can be muted

Samsung definitely! Love the 20min wash, the hour wash is great for normal items, there’s a longer wash and bubble soak, and also a freshen up with air for things that can’t be washed. Love the drying function. Also, it doesn’t ‘sing’, it plays Schubert!!

SillyBub · 27/08/2021 09:54

I have a Bosch that meets all those requirements, including the ability to turn off the sounds! However, the display does say when you activate the speed function (that reduces the program length by about half) that the load capacity in Kg does reduce too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2021 09:58

I'm quite tempted by this one
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-jlwm1607-freestanding-washing-machine-9kg-load-1600rpm-spin-white/p3605032 because it spins faster. But samsung is winning out here.

I have a Bosch that meets those requirements.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2021 11:32

Do you know the type please Apprentice?

It's a home professional wayh2840, I don't think they do it any more, it's not on their website.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2021 12:06

Thank you for looking for me :)

Samsung Addwash is great, my last machine was Samsung and it lasted 7 years of heavy use. Hope my new one lasts as long!
Highly recommended plus you get a 5yr guarantee with them.

I have a Hoover Perfect Silence Inverter with a 13kg drum load capacity, 14 minute rapid cycle and 1400 spin. Its about 3 years old and was roughly £600.

Quiet as a mouse and super quick on the rapid wash, and washes well too.

loopylindi · 27/08/2021 12:24

washing machines that 'sing'? What's that all about?

Ylvamoon · 27/08/2021 12:24

An other vote for the Samsung Washing machine. 👍

idril · 27/08/2021 12:49

I had the same requirements along with a very quick wash too.

I had a 10-year-old bosch machine that was perfect but it broke.

I went for this one.
Bosch WAU28T64GB_WH

Note that all modern washing machines have REALLY long cycles. I was shocked. It's an environmental thing. The bosch that I have has something called "speed perfect" that basically takes the length of a bog standard cycle from 3 1/2 hours to 1 1/2 hours. My old machine equivalent cycle length was 1 1/4 hours so still not as quick but it's the best I could find.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/08/2021 12:57

Thank you Idril, it's one of my big concerns too. We'd like to use it with solar panels, so having one that means we then don't have time to dry things in daylight outside makes no sense.

I've decided. Hurrah! Gone for Idrils as it has a go faster button. Thanks for passing on the benefits of your research. I've been going in circles for months.
