If I can only wear gold earrings, will white gold be OK?

I had pierced ears before DC but could only wear solid gold earrings. Anything else, including silver and gold plate made my ears sore and itchy.

I took the earrings out when DC were babies and started pulling on them and somehow never put them back in. 20 years on the holes have closed and I'm thinking of having them redone, but these days I only wear white metal jewellery. I'm aware white gold isn't really gold but an alloy, is it likely that I'll be able to tolerate it in my ears?

Can you piece them with surgical steel earrings? Surely they will be fine and match your colour preference?

TBH, I have no idea about earrings. They were originally done at a jewellers who used gold studs when I was a teenager and I could never wear the "hypoallergenic" ones my friends wore.

Would surgical steel be what a tattoo parlour type piercer uses? In which case probably yes, but I've never tried it. I'm really thinking about subsequent earring purchases though, being able to wear statement earrings, which is the reason for having them redone.

I think white gold can have nickel in?

I have never reacted to white gold.

I'm allergic to nickel and white gold is fine for me.
