Just absolutely devastated for all those people. I could cry for them. Not sure of the extent of damage.

It's horrific. Sad

MissMarpleRocks · 26/08/2021 15:12

How awful. And I’m afraid predictable.

MedusasBadHairDay · 26/08/2021 15:12

Oh fucking hell, that's awful

Dogatetheleftovers · 26/08/2021 15:14

They’re reporting it was in the sewage canal which crowds of people were having to stand in for days on end. It’s unbearable.

ohfourfoxache · 26/08/2021 15:14

Oh fuck Sad

Marcipex · 26/08/2021 15:15

Oh fuck

Galassia · 26/08/2021 15:16

Huge explosion and gunfire at Abbey gate at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon confirms it.

A reporter on sky news was just saying that she had been talking to an interpreter waiting at the airport with his wife, 3 year old and 3 month old. Since news of the explosion she has tried calling him and there’s no response. 😭

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 26/08/2021 15:16

Its just horrific

meditrina · 26/08/2021 15:17

On the airport perimeter, in a place where two routes for those seeking to enter the airport came together. Very crowded area, apparently.

Information still emerging - likely a suicide bomber, affiliation not yet known, reports of further gunfire in the area.

Not clear what (if any) effect thus will have on the airlift

MyGrassIsBrowner · 26/08/2021 15:17

It's just awful. I am so anxious about the potential terror threats the UK could face from all this 😩

TonyThreePies · 26/08/2021 15:18

Sadly it was on the cards. I pray for those who are there. They must be terrified.

Dragongirl10 · 26/08/2021 15:26

How the international community could abandon the people of Afghanistan by pulling out after 20 years , is beyond me.
Did they not know this would happen?

ScatteredMama82 · 26/08/2021 15:30

Predictable but so awful. :(

Petardos · 26/08/2021 15:31

A president with 40 years in US Politics should have known.

MissMarpleRocks · 26/08/2021 15:33

@Petardos

A president with 40 years in US Politics should have known.
Of course he should have done. But obviously didn’t care.
Pinotpleasure · 26/08/2021 15:37

I’ve just heard a conversation on Talk Radio (I didn’t get the name of the ‘military expert’ speaking with Christos Foufas) but he said that civilian evacuations may very well be suspended and in the deteriorating situation, emphasis may be placed on the flights evacuating the military instead. :(

They knew. All of them. She just put their fingers in their ears and their money from lucrative speaking tours in their bank accounts and looked wide eyed and innocent.
idontlikealdi · 26/08/2021 15:37

It's been all over everywhere that this was anticipated. I never though I would think that trump was the better option.

This shit show is going to be an absolute human disaster.

Redglitter · 26/08/2021 15:38

Oh God I haven't seen the news since this morning but unfortunately they were anticipating something happening 'within hours' Those poor people

AlternativePerspective · 26/08/2021 15:40

Actually no I don’t think that they could have predicted it would all kick off this soon.

And I’m not sure what the answer was. We can’t stay there for ever, and the Afghans want the Taliban in power, regardless of what we think.

As for terrorism in the UK, no I’m not remotely concerned about that. There was far more likely to be terrorist attacks here when it was easier for Afghans to enter than now when we’re in charge of the operation for them to come in. And we have enough home grown terrorists already, iyswim.

gardeninggirl68 · 26/08/2021 15:43

I hear it's the US troops injured, 3 of them

Leftbutcameback · 26/08/2021 15:44

I heard someone (can’t remember who) saying that it would have only needed a very small number of troops to stay to keep the peace over the next couple of generations. If all the countries contribute why couldn’t we do that in the long term. Wouldn’t that be a good use of our resources? Genuine question

AlternativePerspective · 26/08/2021 15:44

It's been all over everywhere that this was anticipated. I never though I would think that trump was the better option. it was Trump who put the legislation in place for the withdrawal. And actually it all started with Obama.

People seem to think that Biden just woke up one morning and decided that the US were going to pull out of Afghanistan, but this has actually been a long time coming.

gardeninggirl68 · 26/08/2021 15:45

A suicide bomber, but car bombs are being predicted too

And shots fired at an Italian aircraft as it took off. I fear this is only the tip of the iceberg

Where would injured civilians go? Are hospitals still functioning or have staff all fled? And if so, what's happened to the patients?
