Just that really. It healed fine and has faded to silvery. No redness.

Just noticed that recently it's been really itchy. Any ideas why?

Could be mildly infected. I had this about 5 years after but in my case it was because I'd gained some weight and had a slight overhang and I must have not washed properly under there and/or had some serious chafing. A day or two of better washing with the application of an antiseptic cream and it was sorted.

Thanks. I wondered that but I don't have an overhang and there is no redness or sign of infection anywhere.

Not a major problem. Just irritating me Grin

I get this sometimes and my scar is 27 years old! No idea why, but I put it down to possible nerve damage.. my son had to be delivered in 4 minutes due to Cord prolapse

Could it be just very dry? I've got a scar on my back from a mole removal 10 years ago. Every now and again it flares up and gets very itchy. Usually copious moisterisation helps or, at a push, I get DH to put one of those creams with cortisone on it for me - you can buy low does ones over the counter.

I wondered if it was nerve damage. I moisturise it after showering along with the rest of me.

Actually, I have another scar from a mole removal and that often itches too. Maybe it's just a scar thing! Just surprised that it has started happening after so long. Maybe I just wasn't aware of it before. I got 'twinges' up to 10 years afterwards but those have stopped. Bodies are funny things!

According to my doctor, this sort of itching/dryness is worse as you get older/ peri menopause. So that could be it. Try a light cortisone cream.

Mine still itches every so often after 12 years. It went through a bad phase where it was quite painful and I wondered if it could be sectional endometriosis but it calmed down again.

LadyGAgain · 26/08/2021 16:19

It could be adhesions inside you. Where scar tissue clings to other parts of you. That can cause pain/an irritable feeling.

AnSionnachGlic · 26/08/2021 16:24

My csection scar is 15 years old (twin delivery) and it still occasionally burns/ stings when I stand at the sink and it brushes against the kitchen cabinet! I presume it's down to nerve damage/adhesions as I've had 3 c sections.

GreenTeaPingPong · 26/08/2021 16:29

Not quite the same, but about 5 years after my C section a black piece of suture emerged from the scar! (it was supposed to have dissolved)

I saw the doctor yesterday about the same thing! My scar is 9 years old. She said I had a bacterial infection and thrush and prescribed antibiotics and a cream. It stinks too 🤢

Oh great! Grin

I'm in my 40s so that might explain it!

Sounds nasty! But like I say, there is no change. Scar has faded, I'm very fair skinned so any redness shows up immediately - another joy of perimenopause... 🙄 hope it clears up quickly.

That sounds a bit Shock hope it wasn't painful!

I don't know how I'd know if it was adhesions. There's no puckering or anything. It's completely smooth.

Maybe it's just one more joy of the peri shit! It's not something i feel needs a doctor.

You’re about to come into some money?

Hen2018 · 26/08/2021 17:50

My potential skin cancer removal scar itches on my shoulder and it was only 4 stitches. It is 25 years old!

Melassa · 26/08/2021 18:00

Mine is nearly 18 yo and still itches occasionally, but on one side only. I asked my gynae about it recently as she just said it was very common. There is no infection as my scar has healed well (in fact she said it was a “nice scar” Hmm) so it’s just related to the the scar tissue itself/skin thickening or whatever at the site.

evianlion · 26/08/2021 18:03

I get scar itching when my weight fluctuates.
