When do you personally think a tv series should have finished?

Soubriquet · 26/08/2021 11:43

The last season of Once Upon A Time should not have happened.

It ended with a good ending in series 6, and then tried to do an entire new series with the same story line. Bad failure.

Glee. Although there are some good episodes when the original cast left for college, it should have finished after they won nationals and graduated high school.

Handmaids tale. I think it should have finished after series one.

I thought the ending of S2 of Afterlife was very fitting, so I was dismayed when I read about the upcoming third season. It feels like it's just being made because it's what the fans want, the fans want to see Tony and Emma and a happy couple...but I'll happily be proven wrong!

torchh · 26/08/2021 16:50

And Gervais always said to not do a third series

Quickchangeartiste · 26/08/2021 16:50

Slight change of programming but Strictly, Antiques Roadshow, Bargain Hunt, Pointless, One Show , pretty much most of the Beeb staples, way past their use by dates.

torchh, it does seem to go under the radar, doesn't it?

I disagree about Strictly. By its nature (new personalities and relationships every time) it stays fresh IMO. Although I do think they need to rein in the relentless begging for/banging on about 10s, and use less in the way of rubbish songs and go back to more authentic ones.

Strangely, yes!

My brothers won't even try watching despite it being completely up their street! Their loss!

I'm hoping it doesn't go the way of many series and get strung out for too long though.

When is the next series coming?!

Marmelace · 26/08/2021 17:07

@Melliferous

I love/d the Royle Family but those Christmas specials were well below the quality of the actual series.
Totally agree, they made the characters so stupid it was insulting.
Geamhradh · 26/08/2021 17:14

@Myusernameisnotmyusernameno

Waterloo road should have stopped before they moved the school to Scotland
Came on to say this. Most ridiculous plot development ever (even taking into account the body count among staff and students being higher than Midsomer and Oxford put together)
DustySpringboard · 26/08/2021 17:29

If people are watching in big enough numbers then tv stations are going to keep recommissioning but I agree with lots of the above.

Will also add Nashville and Friday Night Dinner-the former I just stopped watching, the latter watched until the end just because I still loved the characters (& actors)

There is nothing more disappointing than watching a fantastic series which goes downhill

StCharlotte · 26/08/2021 17:35

@mumsiedarlingrevolta

And as a contrast Fawlty Towers made 2 seasons and every one a gem- a perfect example of "leave them wanting more"
They re-ran Fawlty Towers recently. It hasn't aged at all well. What was hilarious decades ago is quite uncomfortable to watch now.
HollowTalk · 26/08/2021 17:37

@VladmirsPoutine

House shouldn't have gone on as long as it did. It was a great series but towards the end went a bit off key.
I came on to say this! He should never have kissed Cuddy.
Redcrayons · 26/08/2021 17:37

Oh how could I forget about Modern Family. One of my absolute favourite programmes for so long, but i stopped watching around 7 or 8 when it just became a chore.

I loved The Middle and could have watched another series of that, they seemed to get the kids growing up just right.

IntermittentParps · 26/08/2021 17:39

torchh, all I've read is 'later this year', frustratingly.

I'd forgotten about Nashville! It just went weird.

MoChridhe · 26/08/2021 17:44

True Blood also got weird

KintsugiCat · 26/08/2021 18:07

@Redcrayons I could have done with a bit more of the Middle. Say til Brick went to college or there was at least one wedding/grandchild.

I think the last season of Atypical could have been a bit shorter.

purpledagger · 26/08/2021 18:19

I think most shows I've watched have gone on for too long:

Buffy TVS - I felt they were racking their brains trying to find a season finale villain. A god? The First?

Game of Thrones - The whitewalkers was really built up and then became... nothing.

Once Upon a Time - didn't finish it before it came off Netflix's, but it just went on and on. With loads of flashbacks of the Evil Queen, doing evil things, again and again.

Big Brother - the producers ran out of ideas to keep it fresh and all of the contestants were so self aware, it just spoiled it.

torchh · 26/08/2021 18:21

Game of Thrones - The whitewalkers was really built up and then became... nothing.

I found this weird too. And Arya killed some big guy and it was never mentioned again

Icequeen01 · 26/08/2021 18:38

@Bells3032

Agree about handmaids tale. Season 1 was enough...after that it turned into torture porn and i got bored.

Friends - probably the season where Emma was born.

Simpsons - about season 10.

Grey's anatomy - season 11 (derek's death)

Nooooo, I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread. I'm on Series 10 of Greys Anatomy 😢😢😢
Bells3032 · 26/08/2021 19:17

@Icequeen01 oh I am really really sorry for that. Sad

Please don't worry, I should have realised there might be a few spoilers 😀

purpleme12 · 26/08/2021 19:25

@Icequeen01 my ex when we were together blurted that out about Grey's Anatomy! I had no idea before he said! I was so pissed off!

purpleme12 · 26/08/2021 19:27

I think the final season of Buffy was the worst one

And definitely the last season of Scrubs shouldn't have been made and I bloody love that programme. I've got all the DVDs so bought the last season, watched it all then decided I wouldn't watch it again and threw the last season away

Icequeen01 · 26/08/2021 19:29

My DH watches Greys with me so Im going to try and keep this awful secret to myself now!

Newestname001 · 26/08/2021 19:49

Victoria - that started off so well and then just became such a yawn as the series progressed...

Call the Midwives: loved this for a long while then it just became so stilted and grim....
