Are there any stores or companies you refuse to shop from or deal with?

As the thread title says - I have just decided to shop anywhere except a major high street electrical / computer company from now onwards after a couple of poor customer service issues. I shopped there from convenience, but I'm fed up with them now.
This got me thinking. I avoid any MLM, even though I really like some products I was given as a gift, and stores with poor ethics regarding production, worker treatment, etc.
Do you have any you actively avoid?

Wetherspoons usually keep their beer very well, you can dislike a lot about them but you never get a poor pint

Before I avoided them like the plague I’d had plenty of shit beer in Wetherspoons.

Wineandroses3 · 26/08/2021 21:05

Never realised about Lush. Will never ever shop there again.

orchidsonabudget · 26/08/2021 21:12

Sports direct

TrainedByCats · 26/08/2021 21:15

Oh also NSPCC for defending rubber wanking mans behaviour and calling women expressing concern homophobic (his sexual orientation was neither well known nor relevant)

Hen2018 · 26/08/2021 21:24

Holland and Barrett after the woman serving last week referred to the customers who she served before me as "bloody pikeys"...

Obviously not bothering to check whether I was Anglo Saxon or not first.

Hen2018 · 26/08/2021 21:25

And Nestle, obviously.

balloonsintrees · 26/08/2021 21:29

WH Smith as the shops are completely unsuitable to wheel around in a wheelchair.
A few years ago was out buying new secondary school stuff for me and the eldest, popped into Smiths in Bluewater. Turning round to go to the till and ended up knocking into one of their boxed displays. Had no choice as the aisles were jammed packed with display units and just crap everywhere.
The manager happened to be there and told me next time to either walk around the store or send someone else in on my behalf - I was utterly fuming that someone could be so disablist!AngryAngryAngryAngry
I dumped the stuff on the floor, refused to buy it and child and I went out, chased by manager trying to get us to buy the basket of goods. Haven't been in one since, and by the looks of it their aisles are still bloody impassable!!!

HenryHorse1 · 26/08/2021 21:30

Iceland - I'm a previous employee and the sexism, bullying culture and 'jobs for the boys' attitude was absolutely disgusting!

HenryHorse1 · 26/08/2021 21:33

Oh and Scottish power! Chased me for the previous owners electric bill despite numerous calls, letters and emails giving the the owners new address. Even sent bailiffs

!

Kendodd · 26/08/2021 21:36

Amazon

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/08/2021 22:10

M & S,
Lush
Body shop for all the reasons mentioned.

Now buy cosmetics, bath stuff etc from small ethical businesses and have had two M & S free christmases - their loss - we haven't missed them at all.

Have also abandoned all the charities that trash women's rights and use dehumanising language about women.

BeKindhahahaha · 26/08/2021 22:11
@BeKindhahahaha You should definitely contact the store regarding that. The great thing about Fenwick is that it covers such a wide range of shoppers and I suspect they would take a very dim view of the assistant's attitude.

Apart from anything else, how can you go to Newcastle and not go to Fenwick?!
I did write to the store director Mr Keiran McBride, Letsgetquizzy .. but he wasn't particularly interested. 🤷‍♀️

It's been little effort not going in there really, I can get to Edinburgh quite easily so if I want to just have a look around the shops (but inevitably end up buying) I go there.

It was awful. It sounds pathetic considering what's going on in for example Afghanistan, but it was really unpleasant.

DevonTF · 26/08/2021 22:22

Lush
Starbucks
Bodyshop
Dove
BrewDog
Sports Direct / HoF

That's terrible Flowers
DevonTF · 26/08/2021 22:35

Really Really hope the Daily Mail pick up on this thread - as it is clear that many of us stick to our principles when it comes to women's rights, safeguarding and ethics.

MojoJojo71 · 26/08/2021 22:36

Nestle
Claire’s accessories- can’t set foot in the place since I witnessed a teenage staff member attempting to pierce a screaming infants ears

It use to be, that you had to measure to make sure you had a minimum of 2m between displays, as far as I know its no longer like that at more. I have to walk through one to get to the post office and its appalling
PipeDownPete · 27/08/2021 06:44

Starbucks due to 9/11.
SCS sofa company.
Ryanair.
ASDA.
Lush
The body shop.
The sun newspaper and it's associate's.
The BBC.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/08/2021 06:49

Wetherspoons - reasons already given above.

Body Shop (I never shopped at Lush to boycott) as they hate women.

Tesco - they donated to Mermaids.

I have a few more on my shit list after reading this thread!

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 27/08/2021 06:56

A local cafe. A waiter dropped a knife on my toddler’s head and didn’t apologise. A few months later a different waiter put a scalding hot plate of food right in front of my 6 month old in a high chair and he of course grabbed it in the split second before I could move it and burnt his hand, literally blisters all over it. Barely got a half muttered apology. I emailed the manager asking them to tell their staff to be more careful in future and I got a very defensive and sorry not sorry response. Will not go back now.

Icepinkeskimo · 27/08/2021 07:12

@hiplip

Purina cat foods due to their failure to address concerns regarding cats falling ill and even dying after eating Felix cat food.
I am 100% in agreement with you. I have been to hell and back, and lost my beautiful lad 😭

Purina churning out the same old clap trap, they are nothing but a money grabbing profit driven don't give a shit corporation with blood on their hands. But that is my opinion.

PatchworkElmer · 27/08/2021 07:16

Wetherspoons, Body Shop, Lush.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 27/08/2021 09:10

Feather & Black (if they even still exist) - worst customer service I’ve ever experienced
Weatherspoons because of Brexit , although I hadn’t actually been in one for about 20 years anyways no great hardship
Local pub where the owners broke rules during Lockdown
Audi after patronising and sexist customer service
Lush - air pollution

Shouldbedoingsomework · 27/08/2021 09:52

Pret a Manger - I can't walk in there without thinking about a young girl called Natasha who died after eating one if their sandwiches which wasn't labelled for sesame. My daughter also has a sesame allergy and it is impossible to know if sesame is in the bread dough mixture, unless you are told. A few months after the incident, there was another serious reaction from food eaten in Pret (not fatal this time), so they didn't even learn from their mistakes. Honestly I would avoid Pret a Manger if you have food allergies.

Gothichouse40 · 27/08/2021 10:14

Amazon-when possible. Currys- we had a terrible experience with them trying to return a tumble drier. Will never shop there again. Rude and aggressive staff, we ended up complaining to their Head Office who did-nothing. Argos- awful female assistant, very rude. If I use Argos it's very seldom. Nestle, but there are some things I do buy. Ive learnt loads on this thread. I don't buy many clothes anyway, only when needed really. It is very difficult now to find 'ethical' companies to buy from and the ones who are, they are way out of my budget.
