Are there any stores or companies you refuse to shop from or deal with?

User1055 · 26/08/2021 10:26

As the thread title says - I have just decided to shop anywhere except a major high street electrical / computer company from now onwards after a couple of poor customer service issues. I shopped there from convenience, but I'm fed up with them now.
This got me thinking. I avoid any MLM, even though I really like some products I was given as a gift, and stores with poor ethics regarding production, worker treatment, etc.
Do you have any you actively avoid?

Nestle- they kill babies

Seagullsstopit · 26/08/2021 17:08

Also want to add Comic Relief to the list. They held up Lili Elbe as a female hero on twitter and doubled down on it. Lili Elbe is the male who died as a result of attempted uterus transplant in the 1930s. It was never explained what happened to the woman from whom the uterus was removed but this was before the days of using dead people as donors so this was a live woman who was mutilated at best

Holy shit they skipped over that part in the film!!
It was made out to be beautiful! Jesus christ Shock

Babypug · 26/08/2021 17:08

Glossybox - service decreases after every box, they are always delayed, filled with rubbish and never received the products advertised. Customer service is shit - automated statements, don't want to help and treat influencers like royalty whilst everyone else misses out.

Amused by posters on our local Spotted…. page who have had a bad experience with a business. Fair enough, they have every right to be angry but posting and telling the whole town to boycott them is a bit over the top.

Apparently there were also ovaries transplanted from another woman what happened to this woman is also never alluded to.

I find it shocking that the fate of these women and what inducements were used to get them to undergo such risky surgery is ignored.

Oh that's reminded me I had to take NPower to the Ombudsman for similar @WaspsEverywhere ! Good luck with EDF, hopefully having tackled it once you'll be able to nail these quicker

MrsKeats · 26/08/2021 17:39

Oh yes forgot about the dreaded Wetherspoons.
Not that that's hard.

WaspsEverywhere · 26/08/2021 17:45

@8dpwoah

Was the Ombudsman helpful?
Wondering, just in case we don’t get things sorted soon with EDF.

Awful that this happens at all and now it’s the second time for us.
Will ditch EDF once sorted.

Don’t mean to derail but can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hassle-free electricity provider?

Historyfan · 26/08/2021 17:46

Oxfam-we got my dad a mango tree,50 condoms and a goat for someone in a 3rd world country, for his birthday
The idea being we would buy him something from the every birthday
What a dreadful idea-as soon as they had his details they hounded him-up to 5 times a day for more money

Shell garage-when I was a kid,the old bat claimed the £5 note I tried to pay with was fake
It wasn’t but she still took it to be ‘checked out by the police’
I went back for it but they had no record of it-I still think she kept it-that was my wages

(U)nite-a leccy company that was 100% green
I’d been with them 3 weeks when I got a bill for £3000!
They claimed I’d run it up so I went to the ombudsman who took their side
3k for a 3 bed house for 3 weeks!

Curry’s-unbelievably bad service when I went to buy a laptop
He really spoke down to me

A vape shop in my town-he acted like I was an airhead who had been allowed out to spend my pocket money
He had the nerve to keep asking if my fella knew I was ‘out spending his money on vape juice’
It was my money!

Thomas the bakers (in york)
I got fed up of waiting to be served while they shouted at each other about their sex lives, night outs and penis sizes

A charity shop for people with ms-they’ve shut down now but one of the volunteers grabbed my (then) toddler daughter for no reason at all (I was stood next to her-she was playing with the toys, when she came out of nowhere and grabbed my toddlers arm and yanked)
Then tried to accuse me of shoplifting when I hit the roof-I complained and even though it was all on cctv they denied anything had happened and they also claimed to have lost the tape
Oh and they where standing by their volunteer-their loss as we spent a fortune in there and I refused to step foot in there again
They shut down 18 months later

Gardening Express. it is unbelievable they are still allowed to trade.
can I ask why?
Hdhdjejdj · 26/08/2021 17:55

Interesting about Gardening Express. I once bought a pair of trees from there and they only sent one. That’s never happened before. Luckily I managed to get them to send a second but I sensed they were slightly hesitant to do so.

SedentaryCat · 26/08/2021 17:59

@Fairyliz

Halifax bank. My mum had an account there and when she died I rang them to see what information I needed to access account. So I was thinking death certificate, probate form and ??? The person on the phone told me they only speak to the account holder even though I told her my mum was dead three times! I wasn’t asking for information about the account just what I needed to provide. I finally went into my mums branch with all of the information and they were really rude and unhelpful. You would have though I was trying to steal millions rather than access her £345!
We had issues with Halifax too. MIL used their deed storage service and when she died we found she owed them over £13k - they'd been charging the buildings insurance to it. One year the insurance was £800. Bastards.

After she died we had to settle her affairs and needed to pay the debt obvs...took over six months, many phone calls, one bounced cheque (funds available, cheque bounced for no reason). Much condescension on their part.

On one occasion we were asked why we were claiming we had phoned before as there was no record(!).

Will never use again.

doadeer · 26/08/2021 18:00

Lush - for saying they wouldn't allow a woman with a I am a woman tshirt

Body shop - for being really weird about periods and Jk Rowling

Nivea - for their skin lightening ads across Africa.

Byron - for having loads of their staff deported.

doadeer · 26/08/2021 18:01

Oh and I would never buy from a MLM because I disagree with the whole concept

Barkingdog · 26/08/2021 18:02

@WaspsEverywhere Keep at it with EDF. We had a nightmare with them and our final bill. I was expecting a refund from them as we were in credit but instead they sent me a bill for over £600. It took many emails and phone calls plus hours of me worrying about it and checking the calculations on our bill. I lost a lot of sleep even though I knew we didn't actually owe them money. In the end they realised they were wrong and sent me a refund of the £130 odd they owed me plus an extra £100 compensation. All I could think of was how would less tenacious people and/or vulnerable customers have coped. I will never, ever go back to them.

Wandawide · 26/08/2021 18:07

On some of the early posts there was comment about palm oil.

I recently found out that for about 20 years some farmers in West Africa have been replacing other old nut tree groves with palm for oil.
That is sustainable.

doadeer · 26/08/2021 18:07

Forgot wetherspoons. Would never support them

Mooloolabababy · 26/08/2021 18:10

Sports direct and any online retailer where you have you pay for delivery AND returns.

Ohjustboreoff · 26/08/2021 18:12

Lush for their abhorrent politics - you sell bath bombs!
Ryan Air for their horrendous customer service.
Made.com as when my sofa started falling apart after 6 weeks they wanted me to get an independent sofa survey done at my expense (they did say if it came back as a manufacturer fault they would reimburse me but seriously!)

elizabethdraper · 26/08/2021 18:38

Palm oil is horrendous You need to read up on it.

It’s a far from beautiful story, it’s a shocking story of a confused man who gaslit his far more talented wife and then dies after doctors lie to him about the chances of a womb transplant. His wife, Gerda Wegener had a tragic life.
swimlyn · 26/08/2021 18:57

Gosh. So many of these bringing back bad memories for me!

I forgot RyanAir. Destroyed £80 suitcase and said cheap flight = no complaints. £120 flight is NOT cheap.

RSPCA – they get no more of my money following two calls for emergency animal help – completely refused any help. No wonder they have constant TV ads for more dosh. They must be losing a lot of donors who eventually see the light.

shadypines · 26/08/2021 18:58

I am extremely close to saying Sainsbury's after being told 3 times this week that a manager will ring me on X day/time and they haven't. This is regarding being delivered out of date food, which, as I reminded them, could give someone food poisoning, so not a trivial matter. Add to that 2 extremely rude/uninterested call centre staff (although I did also deal with one very nice one).

I have come to the conclusion they would rather deal with a law suit for causing illness or death rather than a simple phone call with me Confused

Wineandroses3 · 26/08/2021 18:59

Why are so many posters saying they don’t like Lush?
