Does anyone know what scanners are looking at when they go to the top right of the tummy and ask you to hold your breath?

Sorry no idea, it’s never happened to me x

TisTheSeasonToBe · 24/08/2021 19:51

Depends what the scan is for

allycat4 · 24/08/2021 20:22

It was at the end of a pelvic scan

The gallbladder/pancreas is up the top right. If it was a pelvic scan then it shouldn't have been up there.

romdowa · 24/08/2021 20:26

Top right is gallbladder/ pancreas, they ask you to hold your breath as it expands the ribcage and let's them get a better look. Very odd for a pelvic scan though

Kidneys. It's very routine for a gynae scan

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/08/2021 20:31

It pushes the diaphragm down bringing the kidneys down into an area you can see them

HalloHello · 24/08/2021 20:37

You can't see kidneys on an abdominal scan though, can you? All kidney scans I saw are on your back

NotQuiteUsual · 24/08/2021 21:14

I just had a pelvic and abdominal scan. There was a lot of holding my breath, I think when they did that bit they were checking an artery and my gallbladder.

allycat4 · 24/08/2021 21:23

I did ask if it was my gallbladder she had looked at but she said no, then she got interrupted by a colleague then let me go. I was wondering liver??

Yes could've been liver.
