Can anyone speak/read Mandarin?

DS has taken this as a language this year. First lesson was last week and he’s got homework. No books home to refer to so it seems the paragraph he’s to read is to be from memory somehow. Google translate is really difficult because of the symbols.

Can anyone give me tips on how to help him translate?

There are Chinese dictionary apps that let you draw the symbols and it allows you to translate them. I used to use Pleco.

Has he not got a vocab list with the Chinese character and the pinyin transliteration (which tells you how to pronounce the word) and the English translation? Without the pinyin how is he going to learn how to pronounce words?

Is it typed? Google translate is pretty good at working from photos when the text is clear. Worth a go if you've been drawing it in.

Pleco and handwrite the characters in. Feel free to post a pic. And we'll help.

Thanks. Sorry for the delay. He missed a follow up with the teacher who gave a work book home. He will get it tomorrow. Thank goodness, it’s really hard trying to work it out!
