Paying for a modelling portfolio

Has anyone got any positive stories about having done this or known someone who has?

I have been told you should never have to part with money. And I get that if you are scouted or spotted. But what if you are taking a more proactive approach?

Surely some people have, as a result of having a professional batch of photographs taken for a fee, have gone on to secure paid modelling work?

Or am I just deluding myself?

[it's not for me BTW]

No, never - the agency needs to see the person as they are to know if they will be any good.

The best thing to do is go down to London and go round all the agencies for a couple days.

If that’s not realistic, get together a selection of family and friend photos, face from a few angles and full body, and email them to the reputable agencies - that’s far more useful to them.

I was a model. Never heard of anyone having professional photos. Most people are scouted when young, some come from acting, a few have connections. As a pp said, you can go to the agency in person.
