Can I avoid it?

Two DC down with D&V bug. DH now feels sick too. He prepared dinner tonight. Do I have any hope of avoiding it?

May god be with you

Rosecottage888 · 23/08/2021 22:51

Oh Christ good luck

bluecamelplantpot · 23/08/2021 22:53

Oh no, I was hoping for some reassurance that I might somehow escape it! Have a tiny baby here too!

Get some registration sachets mixed up ASAP

Gibbertycricket · 23/08/2021 22:56

Some people are genetically less likely to get noro (if it’s noro) so you might be lucky! Fingers crossed for you!

bluecamelplantpot · 23/08/2021 23:00

I'm taking some solace from your response @Gibbertycricket. I generally don't get D&V bugs, can only remember one, in fact, even though DH and the kids have had a few over the years. I'm a bit concerned about the baby getting it now though. Even if I don't get it I don't think I'll sleep tonight for all the worrying about it!

I've caught my DC's vomit in my hands and not caught it. Conversely, the one time I did have it I was the only one in the household to have it.

You may be fine yet OP. Hope the DC aren't too poorly with it and feel better soon.

RedSoloCup · 23/08/2021 23:11

We're a family of five and pretty much only ever had one at a time so you definitely can avoid

bluecamelplantpot · 23/08/2021 23:16

Oh I hope I can. I feel sick enough just worrying about it. I've got one DC who was sick in bed without even noticing and the other who is crying because his tummy hurts again, although it's been six hours since he was last sick. DH reckons he's defo going to be sick at some point soon. 😭😭😭😭😭

DH definitely down now too. It's going to be a long night!

Oh frig me. Good luck OP

passes the bucket , kitchen roll , damp flannel and rehydration drinks

DelurkingAJ · 23/08/2021 23:40

Good luck. Last time we had this DH avoided it by scrupulously washing his hands and the bathrooms every time one of us was sick. DS2 was sick on me…I was less lucky than DH.

bluecamelplantpot · 23/08/2021 23:45

I'm feeling reassured from googling - seems that if it is norovirus, it's only contagious from the point at which you feel ill. DH confirms he definitely didn't feel ill when he was making dinner. He dealt with both DC and I (and baby) haven't had any close contact with them since about 19:30. It's only in the last hour or so he's started to feel ill so hopefully we'll be ok 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

My hands are sore from all the hand washing already! I do actually feel a bit ill but, for now at least, I think it's just the worry about the baby catching it.

Hope you dodge the bullet - last time my husband had a stomach bug I avoided it despite him cooking and us living in very close quarters.

thelastgoldeneagle · 25/08/2021 23:23

Are you ok, op?

bluecamelplantpot · 26/08/2021 23:00

Miraculously I didn't get it!

Monday night was awful, both DC taking it in turns and DH ill aswell.

One DC was last ill at 4am on Tuesday and is pretty much fine now apart from a smaller appetite. The other was sick once on Monday, then had a bit of diarrhoea overnight with a fever on Tuesday but has been fine since, until now where he's just woken up and vomited everywhere. Is it usual for it to go away and then come back?
