Story writing books/games ideas for kids

Looking to put together a story writing present theme for an 8 year old. Thinking of a how to write a story book or some kind of puzzle/game cards that you can play with to help etc. Or any other ideas?

I don't know if they still sell them but you used to be able to buy story cubes. The idea was you rolled the dice and they landed on pictures from which you made up a story.

There is a storytelling game called Once Upon a Time that is good.

I bought the book off Amazon for £3.99 at the beginning of July, so a price watch if you want to pay less - it looks good, lots of small writing projects in it.

There are a few 'themes' in the 'Rory's Story Cubes' range, and there is bound to be a more economical version out there too (I just searched on Amazon for an idea!).

I bought the story cards from Aldi either last year or the year before around late autum/run up to Christmas time, and I'm sure they were either £2.99 or £3.99, but useful for language and oral storytelling as well.

I'd say these would all be useful for a story writing gift for an 8 year old. There are 'story starter' books, but they tend to be one sentence, and quite often US-centric (e.g. one mentioned 'rival lemonade stands' on the page you could see on Amazon), so I think cards/dice would be more useful.

A notebook and pen/pencil set too?
