Contact my manager?

I have a lovely manager, but he's known for messing up the rotas occasionally. I was in yesterday and noticed I'm down for working next weekend. If I'm not in it'll mean there's a fairly new person who hasn't got the authority to do certain things and it's going to make it a very difficult day - the manager who's would normally have to help out a lot - fine, but the one that'll be in is known for hiding in the office, and is rarely seen on the shopfloor

In the ideal world, I'd remind my manager I'm booked off (really like him and best manager I've had except for messing up rotas), but last time this happened to someone, they ended up cancelling their time off. Sorry, but there's no way I'm doing that as we're away celebrating our 25th anniversary, hotel paid for.

WWYD?

I'm a bit confused, sorry, so you've booked the time off but have seen you are down to work, and you are worried if you point this out to your manager he'll cancel your leave and make you work as it will be a busy shift without you, is that right? What do your staff policies/staff handbook say about cancelling leave, does notice not have to be given? Is there anyone else who could theoretically cover this shift for you?

Thing is surely if you say nothing and just don't turn up at the weekend, you'll be in trouble? Is it not up to you to check rotas and point out mistakes to your manager? You say he's generally a good person, would he really cancel leave on you at short notice for an important occasion like that? I guess tactically if you aren't worried about getting in trouble I might point it out to him but maybe just a day or two before, enough time to sort out cover but close enough that he would feel really bad about cancelling your leave/not have enough time to under your policies?

Don't you just contact Nice Manager and say

"Hi NM, I noticed I'm on the rota next weekend, but I'm booked off for my wedding anniversary weekend. Might be worth mentioning New Employee is rota'd and may need handholding on the floor til they are up to speed"
