Being quizzed by boyfriend

What do you think of a man who constantly quizzes his girlfriend on the year/ band name of a song when listening to music, also does this in front of others to the extent it makes her feel stupid? Although she likes music, she wouldn't have the same depth of knowledge as him. He's a bit of a know it all also with regard to gardening, cooking etc, and likes to slow off. Could this be described as arrogance?

Yep. He's a dick.

Blue4YOU · 23/08/2021 09:30

I’d describe him as a boring arsehole

TheQueef · 23/08/2021 09:32

That's going to get very tiresome very quickly.
Are there any redeeming features?

I’d describe him as someone who needs to be dumped

Why would you stay with a man who gets off on trying to make you look like you are thick?

LaRome · 23/08/2021 09:33

Sounds like he has nothing going for him so he has to make others look stupid to make himself look better?

LadyDanburysHat · 23/08/2021 09:34

I would also describe him as someone who needs to be dumped. I can't imagine not being able to listen to music without some twat treating it like Popmaster. Fuck that for a lark.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 23/08/2021 09:34

As a dickhead and he would be dumped for sure. I couldn’t put up with a daily pop quiz!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 23/08/2021 09:35

It wouldn't impress me. It makes him sound very teenage indie fan to me, like she can't possibly like the music he does if she can't name the album the song came from etc. I can't imagine other people liking seeing him do that to her (and if it is you, have you told him you don't like him doing that? If he has been told- even if not by you but by other people - then he should stop doing it and if he hasn't it's not a good sign)

FlippantFair · 23/08/2021 09:36

I'd describe it as fucking annoying and I would not be in a relationship with somebody you did that for very long. If you didn't stop upon it being pointed out, of course.

FlippantFair · 23/08/2021 09:37

He, not you, obviously

Crayfishforyou · 23/08/2021 09:41

Twat alert

Harlequin1088 · 23/08/2021 09:50

Ah man. He sounds like a complete cockwomble. I bet he also comes out with things like, "The only way to listen to THAT album is on the original vinyl".

Get rid.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/08/2021 09:54

Why would any woman put up with this? He's an insufferable bore.

DPotter · 23/08/2021 09:56

Yes he's a twat who likes to show-off in front of his friends by humiliating his GF - nasty thing to do. The sort of thing I hope a 9-10 yr old would grow out of quickly.

Next time he tries it, you could play it for laughs and give a ridiculous answer, eg Vera Lynn singing OK Bondage Up Yours, and say it every time he tries to show off.

Or you could just dump him.

JorisBonson · 23/08/2021 09:57

DH and I do this to each other 😬 but we are both proper music geeks and make a game out of it. Wouldn't dream of dragging someone into it who didn't enjoy it.

Chloeblue · 23/08/2021 10:08

Good to know I wasn't just being over-sensitive. He is now my ex but I was just thinking back over the relationship and it is just one of many things that he used to do/ say that made me feel inferior to him.

Were you dating Ken Bruce? 🤔

You took the words out of my mouth!
Chloeblue · 23/08/2021 10:10

Cooking was another where, when he cooked and we sat down to a meal, he praised himself no end, whereas when I cooked he never complimented it, ever.

Grin
Cocolapew · 23/08/2021 10:11

He probably liked a band years before anyone else did as well.

AnonymousCheerleader · 23/08/2021 10:21

Exactly what I was going to say.

My dad can be like this. I just make it painfully obvious that I do not give a shit!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 23/08/2021 10:42

Glad he is your ex, Chloeblue. Bet when you broke up with him lots of friends told you they didn't really like him!!

Chloeblue · 23/08/2021 12:17

Yes, a few of them thought he was over-confident and arrogant and didn't treat me very well but of course I couldn't see it at the time. I can now, with the benefit of hindsight!

OP posts:
LilyRose88 · 23/08/2021 15:18

My ex was just like this. He was a narcissist although I didn't realise it at the time. It was all about making himself look knowledgeable and trying to make me look/feel inferior. Nasty little s**t and I'm glad that I am no longer with him.
